“You don’t know, you can never be sure, but you take the plunge anyway. Sure is for people who don’t know enough”. This is true on so many levels, but never more so when it comes to love. A friend of mine recently got married and when she was asked how can she be sure her husband is the one, she said that even though she just knows, sometimes she still has natural doubts. Even when we feel we’re sure about something, we can never control everything, especially matters of the heart. Imagine meeting your soul mate at your wedding, of all places!
Imagine Me & You explores what happens when your soul mate turns out to be someone you would never have imagined. After seeing Luce for the first time at her wedding, Rachel finds herself falling for her and is convinced she is the one. While her new husband Hector has done nothing wrong and seems to be a good guy, Rachel cannot escape the fact that Luce might actually be the one she is to spend the rest of her life with.
We often find ourselves in situations where we are confronted with new emotions and sometimes they can surprise us. Some of us might find it unfathomable to even consider falling for someone of the same sex and for some of us it doesn’t really matter. Loving someone is hard enough sometimes, but when something new adds to the complication, we find it hard to do admit to ourselves it is what we really want. In the film, Rachel is naturally reluctant to hurt her husband and decides to stay with him, despite her love for Luce. Out of love for Rachel, it is Hector who pushes Rachel to admit her feelings for Luce and leaves.
One of the hardest things we do every day is just being ourselves. No matter how frightening some things about ourselves seem to be, we should never be afraid to admit them. The movie does have a happy ending in a way, where Rachel finally embraces her new life with Luce and it seems to find her happiness. I did feel a little sorry for Hector, but it seems in the epilogue that he found his soul mate as well.
Imagine Me & You is a sweet film, and this from someone who doesn’t usually like romantic comedies. The movie is a love story, pure and simple and gives me, at least, hope for the future.

Omgosh, Taylor you’ve got to go see it. It’s unbelievably really freaking awesome. Love how it shows that soulmates really aren’t what the world believes it is. You know the whole male female thing…yeah it definitely shows that there are other loves out there than what we are use too. Even the ones that aren’t gay or straight, the ethical ones matter just as much. We are just use too being around the same race and we don’t test the waters to really find out. Do I sound like I’m talking out the Bible? haha, to me it does. But it definitely cleared some things up for me and I give it a nine as well, Marianne.

Yeeeaaaah Superkurre! Rockin’ the review! :D

I feel like I watched this movie, but I’m not sure. I think I did. Or maybe that’s just me remembering the trailer? Why is my memory so bad when it comes to things like this? lol.

No…I think I did watch the movie, because that bit about the husband letting her go…that sounds familiar. I think I remember feeling like he was my favorite character because he just let her go in a way that was as painless for her as possible. It takes a very generous spirit, and true love I think, to be able to do that.

I really don’t remember much else. lol. But I’m glad y’all seemed to like it. :)

I really like this movie and I’ve seen it about a dozen times. It’s such a cute movie. And like I said I don’t really like romantic comedies so it’s a big thing for me. I think there’s like three rom-coms I like.

Lena Heady’s new TV show is good too, if you’re into that sort of thing. The Sarah Connor Chronicles is very good.

Let me first say that it’s an interesting and cleverly crafted… and well-acted movie. But what’s this movie saying or even possibly advocating? I suppose the general answer is: different things to different people.

Granted, you could take away a lot of things from this picture, like, “love at first sight and being true to your heart” for instance, which most of you seem to have done.

But there are other themes as well that might not be so bright and shiny. Such as, what the “heck” is marriage and commitment these days? Obviously, it’s quite meaningless according to this film.

I can imagine the vows in the picture being or maybe they should be, “I promise to love, honor and cherish you till… someone cuter or hotter or more lovely,etc. (you fill in the blank).. comes along.” Whether that happens to be tomorrow, next week, next month, or even just a few seconds ago. And in this day and age it certainly doesn’t matter whether they’re the same or opposite sex… (God forbid that being a concern, you old bigot, you, in reference to myself that is).

And what makes you think you’re not going to dump this new “soulmate” for the next prettier thing that comes along and just happens to catch your fancy. And so on and on it goes, till when… nobody knows. But, you say, you’re just searching for your “one true soulmate”, no matter how long it takes.

Excuse me and call me old fashioned, but I think there needs to be some trust and commitment in love. Or you’ll end up on one unhappy merry-go-round, that at first may seem fun for awhile.

This soulmate thing brings me to another point. Was Rachel really convinced that she was gay and that Luce was her soulmate? To me it seemed more like they were developing a normal female friendship. And other than for the obvious cinematic clues carrying the movie along to its gay fairytale ending, I wasn’t convinced of that fact by the characters themselves and the situations they found themselves in. But maybe that’s more a limitation of films, in that they don’t or more probably can’t show much of the personal inner turmoil that goes on underneath the surface of a character.

Finally, my opinion, which is a guy’s opinion after all ladies. And you can take it for what it’s worth: is that Rachel didn’t or doesn’t really know what she wants and is just experimenting around a little, i.e., the porno videotape. I feel she’s bored and thinks maybe the grass is greener on the other side of the fence so to speak. And maybe that’s another thing this friendly little movie is advocating… experimentation possibly… subliminally? I don’t know. But you, dear reader, will have to make up your own mind. I for one don’t advocate it.

Also, I think Hector should have fought more for Rachel. If for nothing else than to make sure she knew what she was doing. And although I understand the idea of loving someone enough to let them go if they love someone else, etc. I didn’t feel Rachel was at that point.

P.S. Well, that’s enough for this old bigot. I hope I made some of my thoughts understandable. I do wish I could write better and more clearly.. and faster. But such as it is. Anyway, I patiently await your slings and arrows for not being an unabashed fan of this movie.

I do like the theme song a lot but I can’t remember the group who originally did it (my bad). Also, another song comes to mind that might be appropriate for the movie, “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” by Paul Simon. Sorry, I couldn’t resist that one.

Oh such a sweet movie!
a really romantic movie! which i haven’t seen in a while!!!
I love Cooper’s happy ending!!

I loved this movie, like, a lot. It was one of those movies that tried hard not to make it so that someone made a choice due to some trauma.

I loved the flowershop scene, because of its passion, mostly.
