WTF: American Eskimo

comments
My sister wants a dog.  Specifically, she wants an American Eskimo.  So she sent me this picture to try and convince me:

If her getting a dog is anything like her getting a cat when she was younger, I’m going to be the one cleaning up poop and feeding the furball half the time.
Poop is necessary, but I do not like it.
So what do you say?  Win, Toss, or Fail?

I’m not sure if you’re aware of this, if not…let me say this…

If you decide to get a dog go to the ASPCA, don’t go to a breeder who’s going to make a buck off of you! Over population of dogs here in the US is HUGE. Each year about 3 million dogs are euthanazed due carelessness of humans and selfishness of breeders trying to make a buck! :(

Please read the link below for more information. :)

Okay that’s a freaking win. Haha, I don’t think it’ll be that bad though because it looks so plushie and it’ll probably come over to you to squish you and hug you and kill you with its softness. At least your sister is choosing a cuddly small white furry Eskimo instead of a humongous black furred dog.

Win, but be prepared to take care of the dog.
I have an american eskimo dog, so let me share some insights.

Negatives: they shed, they tend to bark, they need daily exercise.
Positives: they are smart, alert, super playful, very interactive, undeniably cute, and really really loving. They also have the softest fur I have ever touched on any type of dog. One fun fact about an american eskimo’s fur is that it is dirt repellent, so it stays super white without much work on your end.

You do have to clean up after their shed hairs, so be prepared for that. Also, american eskimos are very energetic. You do need to walk them outside at least once a day, preferably twice. If you’re planning to just leave the dog inside the house all day, he will be very unhappy. He will also be unhappy if you’re planning to shut him up in the garage and just ignore him, because american eskimos thrive on human interaction. As for the poop, take care to house train the puppy and you won’t have to worry about any accidents inside the house. He will do his business on his walks (another reason you should walk him at least once, preferably twice, a day).

But if you’re prepared to handle the work, they will be such a fun addition to your life. Like any dog, they will love you like you’ve never been loved before. They’re very responsive to your emotions so they can be a huge comfort after a stressful day. American eskimos are very special because they are unusually agile and smart. In the 19th century, they were used as circus performers, so if you’re interested in training him to do tricks, he won’t disappoint. Even if you don’t train them to do anything fancy, they’re so much fun that you’ll never have a dull moment around them.

And they really are very very cute. Friends and strangers alike will be constantly gushing over your dog. When my family first adopted our american eskimo, none of our family friends had dogs. After they met our dog, they all went and got their own dogs. See what a good impression an american eskimo can make?

So that’s my opinion. American eskimos are wonderful. They’re like angels, only softer. But think carefully about whether or not you and/or your sister are prepared to do the work necessary to keep the dog happy and your house clean.
