Movie Madness Monday: Bride Wars
Bride Wars trailer
First off, I have to apologize to the GBD people! Sorry for the delay of this Monday night movie review, even though Monday night is just about over! Because all of you are such nice, wonderful people, I know you will forgive me (heh, hopefully). Today’s movie we will be reviewing is Bride Wars, starring Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway.
I must admit when I first heard that two of my favorite actresses (Anne & Kate) were teaming up for Bride Wars, I couldn’t contain my excitement. I was all hyped up and waiting for it to be released into theaters. I mean Anne and Kate are pretty awesome actresses. How could they go wrong with this movie?
This movie takes place somewhere very familiar to our buddy Kathy. Yes, in the Big Apple – the beautiful NEW YORK! Emma (Anne) and Liv (Kate) are childhood best friends who share a passion (bordering on obsession) for weddings. Why? Where does this obsession stem from? Well let me tell ya. While attending a tea party with their mothers, they catch a glimpse of a blushing bride, ready to walk the “long walk”.
Fast forward maybe ten to fifteen years or so and here we find our lovely ladies at a wedding reception. They nitpick at almost every detail of the wedding, arrogantly stating all the things they want at their own wedding with their “wedding” lingo.
Fortunately, Emma and Liv don’t have to wait very long. Both of these lovely ladies happen to be in solid relationships with their guys, and both of them get engaged around the same time. Excitement flares, as they begin the journey of planning their very own weddings. What a dream come true, right?!
Wrong! Liv and Emma not only choose the same wedding planner, but also pick the same location to be married (drum roll please) – the Plaza Hotel. The Plaza Hotel is the one place the girls have been dreaming about for almost all their lives. Unfortunately, their wedding planner books their wedding dates on the same day. So begins the sabotage (the best part of the movie!).
Throughout the journey of wedding planning, turning from best friends to “frenemies”, and scheming against each other, these ladies do learn a lot about friendships and their own relationships. I know the ending to this move review is a bit vague, but that’s where I’ll leave it. I don’t want to give too much away.
This movie is one of those you’d grab your girlfriends, girl cousins, and sisters to watch with you. I was a bit disappointed with this movie because I expected much more comedy. From my own opinion, if you haven’t watched it in theaters, I say wait to rent it. As cute as this movie was, I don’t think it was worth my $10.75.
For those who’ve already seen it, what did you think about it? I’m just wondering if I’m the only one who feels this way about the film. Responses are always welcomed!
Readers: Thanks for reading! Until we meet again…muhahaha.
