Favorite Season

I’m curious GBD.  How would you rank the 4 seasons, from most favorite to least favorite?

One of the great things about living in the Northeast is that we get to experience 4 distinct seasons, in all of their uniqueness.  I have given this question much thought, because I know what the truly important questions in life are, and after much internal debate, I’ve come up with the following ranking:

  1. Fall/Autumn
  2. Spring
  3. Winter
  4. Summer

Fall and spring are neck and neck for me…I like both for their mild temperatures.  But fall eeks out the win for a few reasons.  One, I like spring colors – with the flowers and everything – but I love fall colors.  All those leaves…it’s pretty awesome.  Two, I like the brisk weather of fall.  It’s a bit colder than spring, but I find it refreshing.  Three, spring brings great food with it, but I like the tradition that’s tied up with fall food…apple picking, pumpkin pie for the holidays, hot cider.  It’s nice.  And finally four, I like the poetry of fall.  Spring is beautiful, but it’s easy for the season of rebirth to be beautiful.  It makes sense.  But fall is when the leaves die, and yet they leave with such brilliance.  I like the contradiction of that.  It’s unexpected.

And I know…how can I prefer winter to summer??  lol.  The only thing summer had going for it was that it had the long break from school.  But I’m not in school anymore, so I don’t get to enjoy that.  I don’t like the heat and humidity of summer.  I don’t like the crowds of tourists that descend upon New York.  And I think winter is prettier than summer.  I’ve always tolerated the cold fairly well, and I don’t mind shoveling snow and all that.  Where I am, the winters aren’t that bad, not like other parts of the world that get like 20 feet of snow in a day.  Plus, I like the holiday spirit of winter.  :)   But I don’t hate, or even dislike summer.  I still like it, particularly because I have the least amount of laundry to do in the summer…it’s the season with the least bulky clothes.  ;)

So that’s my 2 cents.  What about you guys?

I just love the winter, the snow, bonnets, candels, christmas etc.
The beautiful colored trees in autumn are wonderfull and i like the sunsets here in autumn.
But I don’t like summer and spring that much because I’m kinda allergic to everything that is in flower at this time. *sneeze* ;)

Hey, hey. I was a tourist in NYC last summer too. Give us a break. =P
And my ratings:
1. Fall
2. Winter
3. Spring
4. Summer
I almost put spring before winter. But it only got bumped down because that’s the last quarter of school and you start getting nervous about AP tests. And cheerleading tryouts for me. And I just like the cold. I really like summer, but I just prefer the moderate temperatures of spring over HOT summer. And mosquitoes are hell in Arkansas that time of year. But we do get a break from school. =)

@ G

Canadian winters rock you mean…:P Vancouver 2010 hehe! haha ;)

Fall –> BDay + leaves, smell, fresh air

Summer–> Hotter temperatures.. TRAVEL! and sense of freedom

Spring–> the smooshy ground….:( haha but, that aside, longer days :D , clothes that are dried outside smell sooooo great :P April-May: the joy of “no coats anymore!” ok, maybe you ‘ll get a cold, but still :P

Winter–> Snow! Holidays! Hockey! but..car accident hehe and shorter days :(

I really enjoy having 4 distinct seasons :D

I was born and raised in southern California. Six months ago I moved to Costa Rica where the climate is SOMEWHAT different haha. Back when I lived in Orange County, it went something like this:

1: Winter
2: Spring
3: Autumn
4: Summer

I luuurve the cold and the rain. Prefer it over hot temperatures any day of the week.

Now that I live in Costa, we only get two distinct seasons unfortunately :( Just summer and winter. And ironically, summer is now my favorite season haha, at least in this part of the world. Basically, summer is from December to March. The rest of the year is winter where it pretty much rains every single day. So you can imagine how one would get sick of the rain for 9 months straight haha.

Now I thank God whenever the sun comes out because I know that in a couple of months it will be gone until December when it’s summer again :)

I love winter for its cold temperatures and because I lover winter clothes. I really don’t like summer cause we get like really, really high temperatures, sometimes over 45°C!!! which is like 113°F!! and I don’t like hot temperatures.

@ MarilyneL – The Canadian winters rock everywhere, but in Ontario lol. Two monster snowstorms a week, plus like -20 degree weather every other day……

OH YEAH, VANCOUVER 2010!

2. Autumn
3. Summer
4. Winter

Well I put Spring as my top pick because first of all, it’s the season I was born in. The weather is just perfect and it’s never too cold or never too hot and you wouldn’t have to worry about sweating too much or putting on your jacket all the time.

Autumn is my second pick …. maybe it’s just a little bit cooler, but I don’t mind the cooler weather because it’s refreshing and the leaves are just wonderful falling from the trees. It reminds me that the year is coming to an end and that a brand new one will start again.

Summer is third just because we get most of our vacations during that time. The hot weather gets on my nerves though!

Winter is last! Where I live (in GA), we don’t get snow at all …. we might get snow like 1 or 2 days in a year, but that’s pretty much it. I love the snow though but, the cold weather is irritable and I can’t stand getting sick from it.

1 Spring
2 Autumn
3 Summer
4 Winter
I think the only reason Winter is my least favourite is because Winter in SA is horrible, we don’t have pretty Winters (with Snow!). But the ‘changing seasons’ are my favourite.
SA summers are scorching and can get windy as hell.
I guess it’s all about your experience of the season within the actual country you live in.

1. Winter…it’s fun to get warm! And hot chocolate is oh so comforting at this time :) Oh and no sweating lol
2. Summer…no schooool! Lots of chill time.
3. Spring/Fall…not sure which one should go over the other. On one side I get to hear the crunchy noise that the leaves make after I step on them during autumn :) Then again the flowers are all so pretty during spring!

If I may…

For me…

1- Fall/Autumn (My bday is in early September and it is around when the changes are really starting to appear from Summer to Fall)

2- Spring

3- Summer

4-Winter

Ok Fall is my favorite because of the reason above. I always felt something stir in me during that time of year… add to that the many colors we can see here during the season…

Spring comes second because I hate extremes… and by that I mean temperature.. Summer is too hot and Winter is too cold…

Summer is third because I prefer the fact I can wear less layer of clothes during this period and with a good A/C system well, the temperature can be manageable.

Which leaves big bad Winter for last. I like early Winter and late Winter because the temperature isn’t too cold and there usually not that much snow. Snow is beautiful to watch from inside where you can sit in front of the fireplace with some hot chocolate. But when you have to walk in 2 feet of snow to go anywhere… it loses its goody side fast.

@ Jessica f- Yes I do live in Canada and I can prescribe four things for surviving the dreaded Canadian winter: Heated car seats, a nice thick hat on at all times and really good, warm sweaters coupled with warm socks.

That’s weird, since I also prefer winter over summer and everyone I talk to about it disagrees with me on that. I also like spring and autumn much.
