The Write Stuff #3: Old Saying

8
comments

(by BannerClub)

For this assignment, incorporate an old or well-known saying (like a proverb, maxim, adage) into your poem or prose.  To get your brain juices flowing, you can go here, here, or here for a list.  You don’t have to use anything from these lists, but if you do, you can use any one you’d like, and place it anywhere you’d like within your writing.  Here’s mine:

They say the early bird

gets the worm.

Please.

They can have

their squirmy worms.

A late-riser,

I feast

on bagel bits,

pretzels, chips,

banana walnut muffin whits.

I'm a

fat pigeon

sitting pretty

in this city.

How I pity

those early birds.

And here are the fantabulous submissions for Haiku Season:

white blankets the ground
hushed whispers of silver leaves
fresh start, blank canvas

- Andrea

Colours blend with grace

Music notes delight the soul

Enchanted vision

- Emma-Lu

Whoohoo writing!

@Andrea, I’m guessing the snowiness of Winter? Loved your description “Silver leaves” and “blank canvas”.

Me too! I also liked Andrea’s 2nd line. And your music note reference was unexpected Emma-Lu, but now that you mention it, I’m thinking jazz. The good kind, not the stuff you hear in elevators or going up the escalator in malls. lol. That’s what I hear anyway. Nice! Music and fall. Whoohoo!

And gracias Kailin. :)

@Kathy, that’s true, I didn’t think of that at the time. Jazz.. Actually come to think of it, Autumn or Fall does make me think of the saxophone. It has that restlessness, and the many leaves representing the continuous notes.
