ANIMAL HEROES by JessicaF

Helloo my fellow GBD-ers. In my quest to find something interesting to blog about that involves animals, I came across an article that really made me smile and restore my faith of good Samaritans in this world. I am unsure of many of you heard, but a couple of weeks ago in Cape Cod, MA, there was a huge explosion that occurred at an animal hospital. (You can read the full article here.)Though still unsure, investigators believe that the gas line running under the hospital may have either been cut or corroded, which trigged the explosion.
Fortunately, one of the hospital vets, Dr. Scott Munson and his wife (also a veterinarian), live right behind the animal hospital. As soon as he heard the explosion, and saw flames, they ran over to the burning building in an attempt to rescue the animals. There were twelve pets total in the hospital that night. Munson and his wife busted open many of the cage doors, setting the animals free. Because of their heroic efforts, all but three cats and one dog made it out. If it were not for the bravery of these heroes, almost all of the animals would have died that night. I’m pretty sure the saved animals are thanking their human rescuers, though they probably can’t say it.
I’m hoping many of us won’t be faced with a dangerous situation like that. But knowing how wonderful all the GBD readers are, I wanted to post some events that you can participate in and also be an animal hero. Here is a page of events from the ASPCA website if you are interested in helping out!
- If you’re in New York, they are having a “Going Orange for Animals” concert for the month of April, which is animal cruelty prevention month. If you watch Animal Cops on the Animal Planet Channel, some of the officers from the show will be there.

- In Austin, TX, on April 18th, there will be festivities and a “Going Orange for Animals” walk at Ziller Park. There will be live music and refreshments for both humans and their furry companions.

- In Los Angeles on April 25th (Venice Beach area), they will be hosting the first annual “Go Orange for Animals” 1.5k ‘Wag-n-Walk’.

- (For the Ks and Marianne) In Canada, they are also holding a Paw for a Cause walking event to help raise funds for the BCSPCA.

Or, if you attend or come up with your own way of being an animal hero, feel free to share it with me, so that I can inform other fellow animal lovers.

So, does anyone have tales of their animal heroism? If so, please share! Actually share your thoughts on any of the million things I mentioned in this blog. ☺

We sure need to help and love animals. Some people are so cruel about them.

@nir- yes i agree. i dont undertand how people can be so cruel to such innocent creatures. makes me extremely sad.

Personally I think the penalty for killing an animal should be the same as the penalty for killing a human.

Be it life inprisonment, the deth penalty or whatever, a life is a life, we shouldn’t differentiate between that.

I did hear one story about a cat. The cat belonged to a family who had a new born baby (no older than Marcus) It was fairly late in the day and the kid was asleep in his/her cot. The cat was normally ery well behaved, but this particular evening s/he kept coming into the sitting room where mum and dad were and yowling, scratching the furniture and basicaly being a complete pain in the ass.

Mum and dad got so mad with the cat that they chased him/her. The cat instantly ran into the baby’s room and jumped straight into the cot.

The baby wasn’t breathing, the cat had been trying to raise the alarm the only way it could.

Te parents managed to perform CPR and the kid was fine.

The cat saved the kids life.

I saw that on TV about 10 years ago

Their’s more to animals than science can tell us people

@Jess

I have many more similar stories (I have an absolute cracker invoving a horse and a donkey)

When I saw your post I assumed it was about this kind of thing, by the time I read it the story was already in my mind.

I love this kinda thing, my cat has saved my life many times, emotianially if not physically

Feel free to email me (all of you) at ‘madgeniusmusic AT googlemail DOT com’

Much love people

Yay Jessica! Great share. I’m so glad that so many animals were saved, and I feel bad for the dog and cats that didn’t make it. At least though, they are not in any pain or physical suffering anymore. RIP
