Movie Madness Mondays: Rent
Rent is the story of a group of bohemians trying to make a living, find love and stay alive, whilst creating and exploring their talents. Rent has an extraordinary way of connecting its viewers to the movie and the storyline and characters. It personally gave me a greater outlook on how special life and support from friends is in life. Ultimately, we will always need someone to fall back on… and true friends will be there and love you no matter what.
~”How do you document real life when real life’s getting more like fiction each day”
Mari here now! I will now spam you all with amazing quotes! I can’t just pick one part of rent to talk about, or just one little quote. There’s so much amazingness going on!
For example, who caaan forget the brilliant line sung by Mark during La Vie Boheme “the opposite of war isn’t peace, it’s creation”! Or Mimi urging Roger to get over his issues and live his life: “There’s only yes, only tonight, we must let go, to know what’s right; no other course, no other way, no day but today.”
There’s such a sense of urgency to live your life, and for many of them the possibility of dying suddenly was very real, what with half the characters living (”to people living with, living with, living with, NOT dying from disease!”) with AIDS: “Will I lose my dignity, will someone care, will I wake tomorrow from this nightmare?”
And this one is just for Taylor: “There will always be women in rubber flirting with me!”
Oh, you guys, I urge you all to give this one a chance! Honest… I bugged Taylor for months to do, and when she did, she ended up watching it 9 times in 3 days… I KID YOU NOT! It’s THAT amazing. Unfortunately, none of you can see it live anymore… BUT if you’re awesome like me, you can get the final live performance on dvd as well, and bawl like a baby watching the featturettes about their last week on broadway. I’m gonna have to quote Collins on this one “I can’t believe this is goodbye.” =(
Oh, and Gertie is urging me to share one of my blonde moments with you all… well, there’s this scene where they sarcastically say/sing Happy Birthday Jesus after being evicted on Christmas eve…. I am ashamed to say it took me many viewings to link one thing to the other. I admit it. Hi, I’m Mari and I have blonde moments!
Ok guys, since writing this has gotten all those freaking songs stuck in my head all over again, I’m off to watch the live version (my neighbour still has the movie with her blah) and very quietly sing along to it so Brit won’t kick me out.
LATEEEEEEEEEERS!
