Bed Bugs

I am dissatisified.  The last 2 posts were about insects, and neither of them were gross.  This situation must be rectified.

Bed bugs are making a comeback.  These blood-sucking, rash-producing insects have become such a problem that the U.S. government hosted a 2-day conference to figure out how to deal with them.

The last time bed bugs were a big problem was before World War II.  They used to be found primarily in poorer areas, but now they’re found pretty much anywhere – in dormitories, hospitals, shelters and hotels.

Bed bugs live in the seams of mattresses, sofas and sheets, and emerge at night to feed on their victims.  They are not known to carry diseases, but many people develop rashes when bitten.

So what’s the deal?  Why are bed bugs making a comeback after having been virtually eliminated decades ago?  Researchers say one of the main reasons is that many of the chemicals used to kill bed bugs were taken off the market because of health and environmental concerns.

Dilemma huh?  Bed bug bites or dangerous chemicals.  This is why y’all need to go into science and solve this problem.

The article.

Thanks to G!  Who’s writing a novel called Midnight, a love story about a girl and a guy who fall for each other, even though the guy is a giant bed bug who must constantly fight the urge to suck her blood.  But that’s okay, because the girl can’t resist the way the guy’s exoskeleton sparkles in the moonlight.

My sister got bed bug bites when she was doing humanitarian work in Egypt. She said they itched like crazy, and the areas where she had them looked like a rash. Not fun at all!
