Movie Madness Monday: Marry Me

Wasn’t Marry Me fun?  Isn’t Alyssa awesome for suggesting it?  If you haven’t watched it yet…dude.  Seriously.  It’s not even 7 minutes long.  I even embedded the video for you.  And I’m embedding it again, right there on top.  No excuse.  You have to watch it before you read Alyssa’s review because there are spoilers.

Here’s what she had to say about it:

******************************

When I saw this awesome short film, I knew that I had to share it with you ladies.  The little girl in the video is too cool for words.  She knows what she wants and goes for it.  And what does she want?  To marry Benjamin Mahoooney (I love how she draws out the o’s in his name.)  Even I agree little Mahoney is a cutey, but the kid’s got a mullet and that’s never a good sign.  Our little heroine does everything she can to get him to notice her - from teaching herself to ride a bike, to coloring said bike black with a marker.  But little Benji is just too caught up with his own bike to notice her.

I loved that she finally gets fed up when he calls her bike “a girl’s bike.”  (At this part of the movie, the song Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better) pops into my head, because clearly she does everything better than he does.  lol.)  My favorite part, of course, is when the little girl jumps the ramp.  The look on the boy’s face is priceless.  For a second I thought she was finally done with Benjamin Mahoney, but she marries him.

I really liked this movie.  It was so adorable.  Plus, I love Aussie accents.  I hope you ladies enjoyed it too.

******************************

Mucho thanks to Alyssa for both suggesting and reviewing this film.  She did this for you guys even though she’s getting pounded with schoolwork.  Cuz y’all know the crunch is on right now, what with papers and projects and finals and all.  Oy.  Am I glad I’m not you.  ;)

By the way, if you enjoyed Marry Me, check out the other films from Tropfest.  And don’t forget…all you budding filmmakers out there…you can enter Tropfest if you’re at least 18.  If you’re younger than that, they have  Trop Jr.

Sometime in the near future (possibly next week, but we dunno yet because a lot of you are busy with school and we want to give you time to watch the movie), our very own ‘Mazing Mari will review Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, starring Neil Patrick Harris, of Doogie Howser fame. I haven’t watched it yet, but I have heard about it because it was something of an internet sensation when it first went live.  The whole thing is online.  I embedded the first part for you below.  If you can’t access Hulu, then here’s the YouTube version.  You can also check out the official site for commentary and all that.

As extra encouragement to watch it…more than 7000 people on IMDb gave it an average rating of 9.1 out of 10.  I was hoping Rotten Tomatoes had rated it, but no such luck.  (I like Rotten Tomatoes by the way…I tend to agree with most of their ratings.)  Still not going for it?  How about Joss Whedon?  If you’re a fan of his, this film is his brainchild.

Also, did anyone watch the Wolverine movie yet?  I haven’t.  But it made $85 million dollars opening weekend.  Thassalotta nachos.

The summer blockbuster season has officially begun.  Are y’all excited or what??  I am.  And, of course, I’m expecting my inbox to be deluged with movie reviews this summer from y’all.  ;)

I’m not entirely sure what the message of the movie is. I thought it was quite cute. Obviously, the little girl wants the guy (God knows why from the video) and does everything she thinks will get him to notice her, from starting out being completely feminine in a nice little dress with her hair all made up, to finally upping him in her ability to do “masculine” things like jumping a ramp with a bike without training wheels, which finally gets his attention. The boy obviously hasn’t gone through puberty yet. ;) Usually, it simply takes an attractive girl to notice a boy for them to be all over them.
