Yo yo yo GBD!  I’d like to state for the record that I am exhausted and very sleepy and would really very very much like to go to sleep, like really, like now, right now, sleep, beautiful sleep, for really real, but MARI WON’T LET ME because she’s lamenting Vancouver’s lamentably expensive housing prices, and insisting that I post the Fun Facts before I go to sleep.  *sigh*

If I wake up dead tomorrow, you’ll know who killed me.  Via sleep deprivation.

I don’t remember the last time we posted Fun Facts.  But whenever it was, the true fact was…#2!

1. The average human being uses about 10% of his or her brain.  <–  FALSE.  There is actually no scientific evidence supporting this claim.  It’s a myth that started from somewhere and keeps popping up.  In reality, almost the entire brain is active pretty much all the time.  Which is probably why this mushy organ of ours uses about 20% of the body’s energy, even though it only makes up 3% of the body’s weight.  (source, and another, and another)
2. The human brain operates on the same amount of power as a 15-Watt light bulb.  <–  TRUE.  Some estimates put it at 10 Watts, but this would be on the low end – for a smaller brain perhaps.  (source)
3. A human head will remain conscious for about 15-20 seconds after decapitation.  <–  FALSE.  Well, most likely false, with a slight – very slight – possibility of truth.  They’ve actually tried to prove this…back when people were executed by guillotine.  There are anecdotes of decapitated heads grimacing, moving their eyes, etc., but no conclusive results have ever been found, even though they’ve tried to carry out experiments.  It’s highly unlikely that a decapitated head would retain consciousness for more than a few seconds, if it retained consciousness at all, because the loss of blood and blood pressure in the head would drop so suddenly, that brain activity couldn’t continue for long.  But hey…stranger things have happened, so who knows.  (source, and another, and another)
4. A few years ago, G accidentally decapitated Chef Boyardee while she was practicing her samurai sword skills.  Chris ran over to the Chef to hear his dying words.  Do you know what he said?  He said, “It’s PAAAAAAH-STUH!!!!”  <–  FALSE.  Chris actually ran over to get the Chef’s Beefaroni recipe.  And G was practicing her nunchuk skills, as she’s already quite the pro with the sword.  But make no mistake – those were the Chef’s dying words.

And here are this week’s facts, courtesy of G and Mari.  Mari provided the goods, G polished them to a shine:

1. Mari collects stuffed animals and has them all named. She also acts out soap opera-like scenes with them. They get VERY heated.
2. Mari used to stay up at night, waiting for a magical hyena to appear and make her go to sleep by giving her a goodnight slobber all over her face.
3. Mari loves to eat her pizza topped with ketchup and, if the mood strikes, mustard and mayo.
4. Mari is a convicted criminal on the run from Brazilian police.  Her crime?  Murder.  Via sleep deprivation.

P.S. – We’d like to continue these Fun Facts with editions for Kendra, Kristin, and Tabby.  But I am powerless in the face of their might.  Perhaps if the GBD raised their voices to a unified deafening roar and DEMANDED that the leaders submit, then perhaps they’ll give me some facts about themselves.  Perhaaaaaps?
