The times have changed, back then basically the only electronic distractions were video games and tv, now we have more tv, lots more video games, the computer has taken the world by storm, and just about everyone has or uses one. I kinda feel like kids now a days are being smothered by all the electronics, they aren’t experiencing the same childhood as i did, and I’m only 20, so within the past 10 or so years thing have changed so much.

I don’t think kids these days have changed all that much. Then again, I grew up in the transitional stage, so I guess things wouldn’t look all that different to me, would they? Lol. I think every generation grows up with its difference than the last ones. Like, those grandparents mentioned probably thought what you think about this generation of kids when they looked at you guys growing up. The kids now will probably think future generations of children have changed values, etc.

When checking out drawing books and that one book about the rainbow fish from the library was THE cool thing to do.

Before we realized all this would eventually disappear.

Who would have thought you’d miss the 90’s so much!!!!!

the funny thing is, just last week i caught myself doing the same thing. i began youtubing cartoons and commercials from the 80s. (yes i am a product of the 80s). watching the bad quality cartoons got me all nostalgic, and made me remember just how much i loved the tv shows back then. my favorites were rainbow brite, the popples, muppet babies, and even the hugga bunch movie!! i’d love to read those all american girl books, and the baby-sitters club. and as for movies, I dont remember ever really loving one, i just remembered being DEATHLY scared of ET. I cried the entire time it played, as my mother claims. i wish there would be a tv channel set to play all 80s cartoons all the time. that would be rad.

as for having an imagination growing up, i remember that! i remeber having the dollhouses, legos and playing with barbie. we didnt really have video games back then, and we really didnt need them. i feel like kids these days are really missing out.

you arent the only sentimental girl out there. and its hard to realize how fast we age. this was a really good post!! it made my day.

Now that I’m a parent, I truly realize the magnitude of these experiences. It takes effort to spend quality time with your kids, rather than just giving them an electronic toy to play with. Back then, video games were scarce (mainly in Arcades) and there weren’t very many – Pac Man, Centipede, etc. (yes, I’m That old). Oh, and we had VCRs. LOL.

It’s alright to be sentimental, and it’s great you’ve had a wonderful childhood. Our childhood memories are so fundamental to developing our perspectives in life. To me, it’s alright to be sentimental about our childhoods, but just don’t let your childhood hold you back from becoming an adult, as well – meaning to grow up and have a life, family, career of your own, too. I can write a book here on the importance of reaching into our childhood to help us develop as an adult, but this is just a comment section. So, great topic, as it has got me thinking…
