Gertie – great crash course on Canadian history – you rock because you recognize knowledge is power. And if you failed to learn from history, you are bound to repeat it or something like that.

Marilyne – I can’t believe it’s a law to end apartment contracts on a specific day. That is amazing.

Thank you all my Canadian friends for educating us on Canada Day and the history of Canada. Although I’m American, I have Canadian cousins and it’s very interesting because if my parents had decided to immigrate to Canada, rather than the U.S., I’d be Canadian and vice versa. So, it’s red,white, and blue and fireworks for me. Lots of spending time with family and friends, too

What did I do today…well let’s see…MOVED!
Yeah, right….in Quebec we have a tradition..well, I think it’s a law…:

Apartment contracts ALL end on July 1st…making it a day were streets are full with movers trucks and and people everywhere with couches in their hands. I saw a car from Alberta and I was wondering what the people were thinking about us honestly… More than 200 000 people moved today!

So, heading to university next Fall…in Quebec City(where the last batal between England(Wolfe) and France(Montcalm) took place on Abraham’s Plains) I had to move… because I work here for the summer…and so is my brother…. and it’s 1h30 from our hometown.

sooooo this morning…no Canadian flag at sight..just mats and tables my parents helped us out to move my brother and I..but then, it’s cleaning and painting time! whoa…and both our apartments were on the third floor by the way…no elevator…vive le cardio!

and then at 5 I went to work.

There were fireworks here and there and little girls with a flag in one hand (actually, I saw 2) and that’s it..Canada Day Everyone…well not that much in Québec which I think is shameful.

I suspect a long time issue or boycotting from Québec that has put the moving day right on the same day Canadians should celebrate..:(

The thing is, Quebec Day or La Saint-Jean-Baptiste or La fête nationale which all are different names for it, is on June 24….so usually, Québecers drink and drink and drink and oh yeah, celebrate, on June 23, and attend huge public shows, major ones happening in Québec City( June 23) and Montréal (June 24). So it’s like, exactly one week later: Canada Day! In which, in this one, people or more wise and go play with their kids more and attends fireworks and that all.

Sooo I would love to know what it’s like to be a Canadian actually celebrating it!

I guess I would have to go to Ottawa one day, on the 1st of July, to see what it’s all about:P

2009-1867= 142 years old! :O We still look so young, eh?
