Soap to Hope

Yo GBD! Check out this article Emma-Lu sent in. It’s about Derreck Kayongo who recycles used soap from hotels into new soap for Ugandan refugees. (He sterilizes the soap beforehand.)

Isn’t that brilliant? Otherwise the hotels would’ve just thrown the used soap away and the refugees would’ve gone without something most of us probably take for granted. Having soap goes a long way towards reducing the spread of disease, but it’s expensive for people who get by on only a dollar a day. So go Derreck!

And go Emma-Lu for telling us about him! :)

Cooooool! My work does something similar with items that have ravaged packaging, or something but are still usable. Only we get money back *looks around* But disregard!

That’s a wonderful project! I’m glad that hotels have something to do with soap other than just throwing it away – can you imagine how much a hotel could throw away in a week? Thanks for sharing!
