Day 3: Saturday, June 21
Denver, CO – Las Vegas, NV
Anticipated arriving time: 4 hours, 5 minutes
We wake up at 4:30am because it is so cold outside, and honestly, a car is not that comfortable.
We have barely slept at all. We see a board, right above the car, that says: “No Night Parking”…ooops…

5am: So, knowing that we would not sleep much more, we decide to get back on the road. I drive to a gas station. It is sooo cold outside! 3°C! (37°F) So we hurry (we don’t have any mittens,…it’s June?!). We can see a part of the Rockies now, but it’s still dark outside so I’m sorry for the bad quality of the photos.
6:15am: We switch drivers in Eagle. The sun is finally rising.
6:45am: Curiously, when my sister is driving, the “pipi stops” are more frequent
. That was one of them!
7:15am: We switch drivers. My sister is falling asleep and I’m not! Once again, music, coffee –> there ya go!
7:45am: Gas stop in Riffle. 11$CAN/201 km, $US 4.299/G
Ok, why stop to put only 11$ of gas? Well, because.
9am: UTAAAAAH! And landscapes…..well, they are just breathtaking and at the same time so cliché as American icons or as seen in Western movies.
Also, it means a lot of “no service for X miles” signs.
Enjoy! (keep in mind that those pictures where taken by Moi.
In the car, no time to stop!

That’s what I’m talking about when referring to “No Services for 50 miles.”

Those rocks reminded me of a certain track in Grand Turismo 1.

Nice hair cute Mr. Rock! Road runner, MEE MEE!

Road runner, MEE MEE!
One of my favourites.
11:10am: Lunch Time! To leave again 20 minutes later, my sister’s driving.
1:15pm: Gas stop: 44$CAN/530 km (4.399$US/G)
2pm: My turn to drive.
3:47pm (2:47pm Pacific time): We change drivers again, so my sister will be driving in Las Vegas. So yes, we are now in Nevada!
Annnnnnd, that next picture made us realise how far we were from Québec. ![]()

Exactly an hour later (4:58pm), we are in LAS VEGAS so of course I am singing: Vivaaaa Las Vegas! Vivaaaa Las Vegas! The Elvis in me gets on his stage…still in the car, but still. Hehe.

Now let’s find a parking spot…hum…there seems to be one on O’Sheas Street. So we check in at our hotel, the Imperial Palace. Then we go back to the car to bring our suitcases in. Bad directions from the lobby…we get lost in the hotel…try the staircase…almost end up locked in…so we take the elevator to find our “imperial suite”… hehe. We rush everything in and get back on the streets, by foot, looking for one of the Cirque du Soleil shows tickets for tonight!
“O” at Bellagio: Sold Out
So we continue, and finally find tickets at MGM for Kà starting at 9:30pm. Pretty expensive, but eh, you’re in Las Vegas baby! And I was not 21 yet so we would not have spent all our money gambling!
Back at the hotel…SHOWER! Yay! (Remember that the night before we slept in the car.) Two days of tiredness and heat. It is now 40°C!!! Compared to 3°C this morning! (37°F to 104°F
) Now clean and smelling great, and ok, laughing because of all the mirrors in the suite…I mean they were everywhere! EVERYWHERE! I was like…aaaaw Vegas. My sister and I found the situation pretty funny.
We headed for one of the hotel’s restaurants. The gentleman at the entrance told us that we had to have a little time ahead of us in order to fully appreciate the meal. Not having the required time, we chose another one. Then, right at the entrance of the hotel, taxis were waiting for us. We took one to the MGM Hotel.
SHOW! It was really nice and we were amazed by the talent of the artists and the hugeness of the show itself. “Kà” is a show about tribes fighting against each other. And the music, the music….it’s powerful and it just makes you feel you’re in the right place at the right moment: that’s always nice. Guy Laliberté, Bravo! ^^ (Can you hear me from space? Hahaha.)
Then after the show, get in a huge line for wait for a taxi.
And back at the hotel…SLEEP! Hehe.
1276 km / 103 $ CAN

November 2, 2009I was wondering what ever happened with your Road trip blogs. Great pictures, sounds like you had fun! Did you seriously only spend $103!? Was that gas plus all the entertainment? One of these days me and my big sis will have to do a road trip.
On a side note, Kathy how is Dez doing?
