Gooooood morning GBD!

First order of business…be sure to check back tomorrow for G’s Griday! She cooked up a special one for ya! I’ll give you a hint: it’s not about Janet van Dyne or insects of the order Hymenoptera.

And now for today’s post! Which I have blatantly stolen from the Forum. It was either that or sleep less, and I think we all know how much I value sleep.

So Roma posted on the Forum about Sojourn to the Past. Here’s what she said:

******************************

Hey girls and/or guys! First off, thanks for taking the time to view this. :) I’m not sure if any of you have been to or even heard of Sojourn but I thought that it was worth sharing. This is a once in a lifetime trip offered to students from various schools around the United States to travel to 10 different cities and meet Civil Rights Leaders and hear their story. The cost is high but I’ve heard the experience is life changing.

Everyone should look into it. If it’s offered at your school you should go! I’m trying to this year, but it’s $2600. If anyone has some fundraising ideas, I’m open. :)

We’re writing letters to people for support, but I’m not quite sure who to write to. Do you know of any organizations that would be willing to donate?

******************************

So help a sista out! Got any fundraising ideas for Roma? Post them in comments!

Here’s some more info about the organization from its website:

Sojourn to the Past is a non-profit organization that has, since 1999, taken thousands of students to date out of the classroom and across the country for a life-changing educational experience via hands-on lessons on the Civil Rights Movement. The inspirational program has empowered thousands of high school students nationwide by bringing to life the injustices that are too often buried in our country’s past. The transformative process integrates education and experience in lessons of acceptance, social justice and standing up for the rights of all humans to a teacher’s daily audience – impressionable youth.

And here’s a video:

What? You want more? More?? Good golly gosh GBD…I need to sleep! Okay, fiiiiiiiine…

  • The next trip will be February 11-20. If you can’t make that one, they’re also having trips March 11-20 and April 1-10.
  • Check out the interactive itinerary.
  • Rules and regulations – iPod and cell phone addicts…you have been warned.
  • Go to page 5 for fundraising ideas.
  • If you’re a low-income student, check out page 8. They offer financial aid, but you need to qualify for it.

That’s it! That’s all I got for ya! Visit their site to find out more.

Thanks to Roma! To whom I donate this valuable fundraising tip: Get on a train or a bus. Sing at the top of your lungs. Badly. As ear-crushingly as you can. People will pay you to stop. ;)

At this time, I would like to thank all those NYC commuters who helped fund my college education.  My apologies if I caused any temporary deafness.

Fabulous idea! Hmmmmm, Fundraising. I’ll have to brainstorm. When I was a kid I used to have to sell chocolate almonds for sports teams I was on. Man did my Mom have to pay for a lot of the ones we ate instead of sold.

What an amazing opportunity! I really hope you’re able to go. Here’s a fundraising idea: A few years ago my sister was invited to take part in a leadership conference in Washington D.C. it was an honor to be chosen, but it also had a hefty price tag lol. So, she wrote letters to local businesses, friends, family, churches, etc telling them about this amazing opportunity, and asked for donations. Once people found that it was something that was empowering they were more than happy to donate, from 10-50 dollars, in some cases more.
Some other ideas: Have a car wash,or bake sale.
I hope this helps, good luck :)
