Day 4
Las Vegas-Williams (Grand Canyon)
Anticipated arriving time: 4:44 PM
Las Vegas
Sunday, June 22
8:45 AM: Wakeup call so we can have breakfast. We stroll through the halls, get to the entrance of the buffet, and we’re told that we need to pay…but we don’t have any money on us. So we go back to the room, get the money, and go back.
It was delicious, so it was worth the little detour. After this, we check out, pack the car up and head out to the streets to visit the famous hotels:
Bellagio

Mirage

Caeser’s Palace!

Paris
But where’s Marcus? Kendra will wonder.

Believe me, it was so hot out! That fountain was refreshing.
Then, at 1 PM, already time to leave for Williams, Arizona.
Anticipated arrival time: 4:44 PM
Right before, we admired a huge lake, which was Mead Lake, blue and beautiful in the middle of the desert! ^^

But….there is a huge a slow line right out of Vegas….because of the roadwork ahead on the Hooke Dam. As I look at that picture more than a year later…the overview appears to me as a déjà vu….from a certain TV show….am I right?

4:00 PM: Gas stop at Kingman on Route 66 + eat. (Because we are in Arizona, time zone change: -1 hour)
4:30 PM: On the road again.
6:00 PM: U-Turn….my 6th sense tells me we are not going in the right direction.
Even though it’s 6 o’clock…it’s still 33 °C (91°F).
After asking a lot of people, we finally find our hotel, The Grand Canyon Hotel, the oldest hotel in Arizona (1891). Really charming – the owners, even after the make-over, kept the place authentic.

So we check in and head out for dinner to a really nice Mexican restaurant called Mexican Cantina just across the street. Fajitas por favor!
There was even a guy who sang Southern classics, alone with his guitar, and for some magical reason, he had a “special microphone” (that’s my rational explanation) that did his background vocals!! :O I was amazed.
The street was filled with pick-ups and cowboy hats…heee-haw! That was nice! I just could not figure out how a professional hockey team (the Phoenix Coyotes) could survive in this hot Southern-cactus-filled state. :S
9:30 PM: Back to the hotel, left-right-left and we’re there!
Shower…in the bathroom that was kinda too perfect for a horror movie, I almost felt like someone was watching me! :O Don’t worry, I’m still alive! Muahaha! Is that an urban legend G?
So that’s it for now!
Next….the famous Grand Canyon and the Not that Fast and Furious – San Diego edition police pursuit! Hahaha. Starring my sister and me. And, oh yes, a sheriff too!
If you want to see more pictures of my road trip, or trips and general, don’t hesitate to add me on Facebook! (Marilyne Leblanc, Québec)
