Pictures! Let’s get creative for a moment: Me in costume, as a tribute to my hero. At the end of the day, no matter what, on the inside, that is who I strive to be.

How do you think people perceive you and how is it different from the way you perceive yourself?
Start out with a tough one, huh?I think there’s a disconnect. A definite disconnect. I’ve never been able to properly explain this, but a part of me will always feel disconnected from people as long as their perception of me doesn’t resonate with my perception of myself; like I’m not human, or like I’m some sort of robot-experiment trying to fit in. It’s strange. I don’t think I’ve ever felt like I’ve had both feet on the ground with how people see me and how I see myself. I often act without thinking, just by instinct and the “feel” of it, so to speak, and it means when I need to be friendly, I’m friendly, and when I need to be firm, I’m firm. People who don’t experience one or the other tend to miss that I have other sides of my personality and other sides of me, so they really only get the shallow impression and write me off as being “that” type of person. It baffles me. I don’t think most people get it.

Which of your irrational fears is the silliest?
Black wolves in my house. It stems from a bad dream I had as a kid, and now, at nineteen, I STILL run through the upstairs halls of my house when it’s dark and late at night. It’s silly; I mean, come on, I live in the suburbs in the capital city of Canada. -
What is the most time-consuming activity you participate in?
Costuming. I’ve lost count of how many hours I’ve spent sitting in my basement with my back bent over my work. Hundreds of hours to wear an outfit for a few hours! It’s absurd, but I love it to bits. -
What is the greatest lesson you have learned from a child?
The best route is probably the most obvious one.“Jenn, why are you crying?”
“Because of ___.”
“Then don’t do it.”Harder in practice than in concept, I know, but kids are way more perceptive and intelligent than anyone gives them credit for.

If you could wave a magic wand and ask for whatever you wanted, what would you ask for?
For every being on this earth to understand and feel love, empathy, passion, and mercy. -
What is the most beautiful moment you have ever experienced?
A year ago from a few weeks from now, my two best friends and I laughed ourselves into tears as we put the finishing touches on some last minute costumes. Exhausted, in sweatpants and no make-up and messy hair, at three in the morning, as my sister begged us to shut up so she could sleep, I laughed until I couldn’t breathe, literally rolling on the floor laughing. If there is a memory that’ll stay burned into my mind until my death, it’s that one. -
What are you most grateful for?
My open mind.

December 16, 2009Great answers Jenn, can I just express how much I love your costume!!! It’s soo friggin cool! You made that, awesome! Do you do that for fun or is designing costumes a career goal for you? I go to a fashion school(but I do a different program) and it always amazes me how people can sew an entire outfit.
I relate to your answer from #1. #4 is so true, kids get right to the point.
