‘Sup GBD! I trust that y’all have been making merry? Bien. Muy bien!

So today’s edition of WTF is about memorial diamonds, which some of you may have heard of since they’ve been around for a few years now.

A memorial diamond is a real diamond made from someone’s carbon remains. The carbon generally comes from the hair or cremated ashes of a loved one, whether that loved one is a person or a pet. The remains are subjected to a purification process to extract the carbon, which is then put under a whole heckuva lotta heat and pressure to transform that carbon into the form of a diamond.

The diamond that comes out of this process is then cut, inspected, and graded by certified professionals.

There are a number of companies out there that offer this service, such as LifeGem and New Life Diamonds.

So whaddya think GBD? Win, Toss, or Fail for the memorial diamonds?

Win because it’s a beautiiful way to remember someone, in a kinda pure way :)

Win, I agree w/ Marilyne, it’s a great way to have something from the deceased. My only qualm is that the person should give there permission to have this done to their remains. Other than that, I’ve always loved the idea of having something tangible to remember someone by, whether it’s a piece of clothing, a stuffed animal, or in this case a diamond.

I like this idea! If I had known about 2 years ago when my dad went to be with the Lord, I may have done that for my mom. Instead we mixed his ashes in a tree plantern thingy with soil and watched the squires eat the leaves… and so is the cycle of life.

Though that was kinda interesting to see, I would’ve preferred the diamond for my mom.
