Attention to All Food Lovers!

Catching up on my reading, magazine-wise, my eyes just dropped on this very interesting article about one of my favorite things to do. Eating!

I hate being the bearer of bad news because I’m the first lover of all things junk food but I guess I feel burdened to bring this up to all you awesome girls, I want you all alive and well for as many years as possible so, here goes!

“9 out of 10 teenagers aren’t getting the fruits and veggies that constitute a healthy diet” states the article I read on Teen Vogue ‘Low Fuel’ by Jane Shin Park.

I don’t know about you, but that just made me very concerned. Through this low consumption of veggies and fruits we’re not exactly giving our bodies essential nutrients it needs not just for our growth but to keep us healthy and from getting sick. “…They’re important for everything from developing muscle tone and being fit to having healthy hair and skin” says Virginia A. Stallings, M.D., director of Nutrition Center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

It’s not exactly about not indulging occasionally on the candy we crave or anything, it’s more like taking control of our candy consumption and balancing it out with the occasional yummy fruits and veggies. My personal favorites among these food groups are: strawberries, bananas, oranges, carrots and amongst others. I really love food. :) But darn…I love chocolate! It’s like a hardcore love I’ve got for it! Can’t live without it! I really need to stop my daily consumption of chocolate. LOL

Now, with this being said as you know we all live in different places and what would be interesting is to contrast and compare here what contributes to your eating habits.

What are your eating habits like? What are your influences? Does your school offer healthy food choices? What do you think on all this?

That picture is false advertising, Jenny :(

Okie, to answer those questions: My eating habits are all over the place. They vary with every day, just like how I dress haha. My influences used to be family when I was little, because my mom and nana were the ones getting/preparing food. They are not very influential in my eating now, my appetite is :p

My old high school did eventually institute healthier food options in the caf, but they cost a lot more than the other food. I’d say it failed haha.

My eating habits consist of mostly fast foods for most of the week (i.e: Carls Jr, Jack in the Box, 7eleven, Domino’s, etc. at least 4 times a week)

I know….I’m prolly gonna die at 30 from heart problems lol, but alas. That is my “diet”. O_o

My school has a cefeteria and they have a deli section (which is pretty dang good) but apart from that, their other foods is slightly above what the fast food is like. haha.

I’m pretty sure the article is right on target, people don’t know how to eat healthily, and with more fast food places on every corner, its not surprising we prefer the easy, bargain food then other stuff… :S

Sorry for my advertisement, G. :( I try. Lol I really think they should make healthy food cheaper, how does that sound?

My diet is horrendous, I’m a poor college student nuf’ said ;)
However I never fell into the Ramen Rut like alot of college students, I think it’s yucky, and on top of that it’s so unhealthy, but it is cheap!
I’m a vegetarian, but I’m a bad, I eat too many carbs, and not enough fruits and vegetables. But I love healthy food, and I try at least once a week to cook an actual meal.
It’s kinda sad that we have these healthy foods available, and (for the most part) can eat healthy, but we don’t, it’s like we are taking advantage of our fruits and vegetables lol

My high school cafeteria wasn’t known for healthy foods,we had lots of fried food and mystery meat lol. My old college’s dining hall was pretty good(Even though the name was Hurley Hall ;) ) They had alot of healthy food, and a great vegetarian selection. My current college it’s really traditional, so we don’t have a dining hall, that’s something I miss.

Maybe we should share healthy recipes.

I’ve actually never been that into sweets. Give me veggies over sweets anyday… okay, except when im a big PMS monster. Then gimme the sweet things :-p

The food in my cafeteria sucks… and guess who eats it 90% of the time because she cant hold out on not eating her sammie in the middle of 3rd period… yes. me.

But I LOVEE VEGGIES. I love salads. I love steamed veggies and balancing it off with a nice piece of chicken or fish… just so yummy and filling unlike sweets which just give me a tummy ache.

My eating habits are moderately good :) I admit to eating things like instant noodles occasionally for dinner whenever I just need something to eat quickly (probably not the best habit).
I eat mostly rice, veggies… lots of wheat based foods, various products made from soybean and lots of lentils :D I love fruits!

Influences are definitely family, although I became a vegetarian because of personal choice.
I don’t eat from school because I live off-campus and we make stuff at home, but I know the cafeteria offers healthy food and fast food. It definitely depends upon what people decide to eat.

I LOVE chocolate! I haven’t eaten chocolate yet after new year, It’s part of my resolution. I did however eat Nutella, so I guess that defeated the whole purpose.

It’s fiiiiine hahaha. I agree, healthy food should be cheaper. They want us to eat it, right? THEN MAKE IT AFFORDABLE! Fast food is hella cheap; how can the health compete?

I usually don’t eat at school since I teach at several international ones and normally my teaching hours are during the afternoon. However, when I used to teach at a Thai Government school, I brought my own food; I can’t eat the regular non-vegetarian Thai or western style cuisine. You may have guessed: I’m a vegetarian, but not purely vegetarian. I follow the sentient lacto-vegetarian style of diet. In my opinion, if you want to live a long life, the type of nourishment you put inside your body is very important. And definitely, even if you are a non-vegetarian, a good amount of fruits & green vegetables should be part of your daily intake, and especially, raw foods are the most beneficial for a healthy you. When you are young, of course, you can eat everything, but as you age then you will start feeling the effects of your reckless intake. You must learn to listen to your body and what foods go well with you. In order to be more aware of your real body needs (in terms of food) it is a good combination to practice fasting as well. One can fast twice a month regularly. When you abstain from solid food and (when your body is adjusted) liquids, automatically you will become aware of the need for a healthier and more refined type of diet. I can tell you that a combination of vegetarian diet and fasting is a great way to go for longer life, free of the diseases that plague people nowadays such as diabetes, obesity, high-blood pressure, hypertension, heart disease and cancer, just to name a few.

Well, there is an old saying:

“You are what you eat” So, if you want to be healthy, you’ve got to eat accordingly.

@Alyssa: I think that’s a great idea, sharing healthy recipes. :D Me like!!

OMG Ramens…I don’t like it one bit! LOL Although on the cheap part I agree! :D

@Taylor: Me proud of ya! :D :D Keep up with the vegetarian diet! :D (I guess when it comes to PMS we’ve all been there. LOL PMS sucks!

@anjudanr: Eating at home or taking food made at home to eat at college is awesome. Not only do you save yourself from spending money at school but you get to eat healthy! (Because you know how you’ve prepared the food, unlike if you buy it, you don’t know what they’ve done). LOL

I must tell ya, Nutella is soooo goood!! :D So I can’t blame ya. ;)
