Humanity a Super Power?

Hey GBDers!

My English class presentation has provoked much thought and I came up with something that will work in a way as a discussion, hopefully? LOL Anyway, here is what was asked of me to present on one of the slides. “If you could have a super power, what would it be?” This alone roused up endless possibilities! Google ’super powers’ and you’ll know what I mean!

Now, there was something interesting that popped into my mind and that was ‘What about humanity?’ You may be wondering what I’m up to here, but would you consider humanity a super power? Think on that for a minute. We humans are capable of doing so much, GBD alone is a statement of what humanity is capable of doing. This may sound tacky but our humanity packs us up with a bundle of super powers. Some have a great sense of leadership while some are fit to serve (ie. firefighters?). We have great abilities that help us bring change to the world, impact lives, to make this world a better place to live in.

So as you may have guessed I wrote in my presentation Humanity. Sure it would be fun to get to places really fast or even be invincible but I rather enjoy this awesome super power that has been given to me and use it to make a difference in the world.

Now, our super power ‘humanity’ is unique within all of us. How can I say this? We have a specialty. So…mine would have to be the ability to write (which I’m still developing). Through my writing I expect to help people be the best they can be and perhaps someday I hope I’m able to teach others this awesome ability of writing and how to get creative with it around the world.

Would you think humanity a super power? (If not, please explain, we love discussions! :D ) If so, what’s your special ability? What change do you expect to bring to the world with it?

While I personally think that the definition of “super” is rather subjective, I love that you bring up the idea that humanity is as good as any super power. The greatest characteristic of humanity that comes to mind is empathy, because that makes each individual unique and is something no machine can duplicate.

I think humanity is the best kind of power a person can have, because we can benefit others in a way that say…being invisible, cant? ;) I want to help people, and Im gona work to do that by being a good person and setting a strong example. so yes, you are absolutely right. it is. and a wonderful blog by the way :)

I think another characteristic about our humanity is our intelligence and using that intelligence for good. I for example use it to help my friends or classmates that don’t understand something in class and I try to explain it to them to the best of my abilities so that they can do well on their tests.

@Laurenelle: Empathy, very true I don’t think any scientist will be able to add such a quality to a machine that’s innate.

You are absolutely right, having and practicing our humanity is the closest thing us mere mortals are going to get to a superpower. There’s so much good that can be done in this world by simply using our humanity to help. Humanity is what rallied the nation to help out in Haiti, and during other disasters, and events. As far as my specialty, hmm that’s a tough on. I think I’m a good listener, and people tell me I have a very calming energy. I definitely want to direct my super humanity power ;) into something like GbD helping young girls/woman build a positive view of themselves and instill in them that there’s no limit to what you can do. :) Great topic!

@Alyssa: By listening to others you’re already helping girls. Many girls seek being listened to and a calming presence is a plus! With your calming presence I’m sure many feel drawn to talking with you and feel comfortable at the same time!

You see, everyone has great qualities :)

I don’t think I can add anything of substance here, but I’ll say that I like to make people laugh. Can that be my super power? Hahaha.
