Shot to Your Heart

A good cliche is a terrible thing to waste….Wrong! Especially one like, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” Sure, if you want to give him a heart attack and who doesn’t love one of those? It did get me thinking, though. They have a cliche bit of advice on how to get a man’s heart, but what about us?! Girls have hearts, too! Unless one of you is sporting an empty chest cavity, then I digress. For the sake of this blog, you all will have hearts, big, little, red, purple, whatever. You have one, OK? OK.

Back in the day, way back before the holy elders of fossil graced this earth, a sure-fire way to a woman’s heart was poetry. Poets got so much action in their hay-day, they were like the rockstars of their time. I mean, who wouldn’t swoon and turn into some unrecognizable pool of mush with some dude eloquently whispering sweet words of how they’ll die without them and blah, blah, shoot me in-between the eyes before I vomit? Think about it…Right now, musicians get…Well, I’m not even going to finish that, I’m sure your imaginations can do that. They get *insert words here* and music is a form of poetry. Who didn’t absolutely love Jonathan Rhys Meyers in “August Rush”? Yes, his Irish accent was to die for, especially since it was real, but I bet his hotness points shot through the roof when the ladies saw him playing guitar and singing. Swoon, swoon, swoooon. Don’t faint, I can’t call 911!!

What am I getting at here? I don’t know, I’m actually not going to get at anything, YOU are. What do YOU think is the way to a woman’s heart? What is the way to your heart? If you could have the man who wrote the following poem (written from the perspective of a shepherd girl), would you scream and attack him like a rabid fan girl chasing Edward? You think about those while you feast your eyes on this poem by Sir Philip Sidney, mmkay?

My True-Love Hath My Heart
My true-love hath my heart, and I have his,
By just exchange one for the other given.
I hold his dear, and mine he cannot miss:
There never was a bargain better driven.
His heart in me keeps me and him in one;
My heart in him his thoughts and senses guides:
He loves my heart, for once it was his own;
I cherish his because in me it bides.
His heart his wound received from my sight;
My heart was wounded with his wounded heart;
For as from me on him his hurt did light,
So still, methought, in me his hurt did smart:
Both equal hurt, in this change sought our bliss,
My true love hath my heart and I have his.

Interesting, I had never got myself thinking on what’s a way to my heart up until pretty much now! Alright…let’s see.

It’s definitely not through my stomach haha. -_- lame…ok.

Getting serious now.

A way to a woman’s heart? (My heart) is not through anything, as long as the person is himself, funny and smart then those are the qualities I melt for. And cuteness in there wouldn’t hurt, you know?

In general I think a girl just wants someone honest who will love her for who she is. Am I right? (Please correct me if I’m wrong). :D

This Sir Philip was the rockstar of poetry, I’m guessing? :)

“August Rush” don’t even go there! I LOVED Jonathan Rhys Meyers! (Still do!) :D :D

He actually wasn’t a huge rockstar of his time, but he did OK lol. I just like the poem and thought I’d use it haha.

It’s not through your stomach, Jenny? What if he made a super amazing meal and you ate yourself to love? :P

Oh, goodie! Another JRM fan! :D

The only two guys who can get to my heart through my stomach are Rocco Dispirito, and Curtis Stone, two incredibly handsome celeb chefs (Swoon)lol :)
But in all seriousness, like Jenipher said, an honest guy that loves me for me :) and he has to have a big generous heart, Extra brownie points if he’s tall ;) were talking 6′2-6′4 ( I’m a tall girl :D )

I’ve never seen August Rush, but I’ve heard good things about it. And JRM has some intensely beautiful eyes :)

You two ladies have made me hungry now haha.

I agree, the poem awesome. :) I guess back then there was a lot of competition.

Well G…he has to be one heck of a cook, there’s only one person who gets through my stomach with food and that’s my grandpa, he’s a wonderful cook so :) yeah…no other man will take my grandpa’s place (it’s just not possible!).

I like Alyssa’s use of brownie points, and that alone has got me craving brownies now…I don’t think they sell those here at the library haha. :D

JRM’s eyes. :) *swoon*

Well G, you should eat something. :)

Mmmm, brownie points. I mean…Uhhh…Huh? What? I think we should all get brownies!

Cha, especially since it was around Shakespeare’s time. You were pretty much screwed back then haha. Although, I made that comment in comparison to Shakespeare, since he was an Elizabethan poet as well, but he did really well otherwise haha. Think of him as The Rolling Stones to Shakespeare’s Beatles.

JRM’s accent. I’m sorry, I’m a sucker for a hot Irish accent haha.

I agree with Jenipher and Alyssa. I might also add patience to that list. Isn’t that something men lack in general? The way to my heart, I really don’t know :( For now, I’ll say honesty and a good sense of humor. Taller than 5′9 is a dire requirement too…hehe..

I agree, JRM is cute! Watching “August Rush” the soonest :D

P.S: G, you’re awesome and funny :D

Soooooo, the way to my heart is to take me to a hockey game. If you wanna get married on the spot, take me to a Canucks game.

PS. I love how everytime I post something on here its about the Canucks/hockey.

Not as awesome as you are, Anjudanr! ;)

Sayrah…Remind me to send you to a hockey game with someone you can’t stand. :P

I’m loving the list you ladies have compiled and since I loooove to laugh, I’ll just add a bit to the good sense of humor one and say I’d like him to be able to make me laugh, too.

Haha this is such a funny post. But I 100% completely agree with you a way to a ladies heart (at least in my opinion) is through poetry it’s so beautiful no one uses it anymore. It would be so romantic to have someone like Leonardo in Romeo & Juliet always talking to her in rhyme that was just so incredibly beautiful to me those olden days were great. Also another way to my heart is like you said before ACCENTS omg I will die if a guy has an accent french, english, irish, scottish, etc. any accent just tickles me lol.

Thanks for this amazing funny post & by the way what a beautiful poem you added.

Susy, I’m glad you enjoyed the post and the poem! :)
