Shot to Your Heart
A good cliche is a terrible thing to waste….Wrong! Especially one like, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” Sure, if you want to give him a heart attack and who doesn’t love one of those? It did get me thinking, though. They have a cliche bit of advice on how to get a man’s heart, but what about us?! Girls have hearts, too! Unless one of you is sporting an empty chest cavity, then I digress. For the sake of this blog, you all will have hearts, big, little, red, purple, whatever. You have one, OK? OK.
Back in the day, way back before the holy elders of fossil graced this earth, a sure-fire way to a woman’s heart was poetry. Poets got so much action in their hay-day, they were like the rockstars of their time. I mean, who wouldn’t swoon and turn into some unrecognizable pool of mush with some dude eloquently whispering sweet words of how they’ll die without them and blah, blah, shoot me in-between the eyes before I vomit? Think about it…Right now, musicians get…Well, I’m not even going to finish that, I’m sure your imaginations can do that. They get *insert words here* and music is a form of poetry. Who didn’t absolutely love Jonathan Rhys Meyers in “August Rush”? Yes, his Irish accent was to die for, especially since it was real, but I bet his hotness points shot through the roof when the ladies saw him playing guitar and singing. Swoon, swoon, swoooon. Don’t faint, I can’t call 911!!
What am I getting at here? I don’t know, I’m actually not going to get at anything, YOU are. What do YOU think is the way to a woman’s heart? What is the way to your heart? If you could have the man who wrote the following poem (written from the perspective of a shepherd girl), would you scream and attack him like a rabid fan girl chasing Edward? You think about those while you feast your eyes on this poem by Sir Philip Sidney, mmkay?
By just exchange one for the other given.
I hold his dear, and mine he cannot miss:
There never was a bargain better driven.
His heart in me keeps me and him in one;
My heart in him his thoughts and senses guides:
He loves my heart, for once it was his own;
I cherish his because in me it bides.
His heart his wound received from my sight;
My heart was wounded with his wounded heart;
For as from me on him his hurt did light,
So still, methought, in me his hurt did smart:
Both equal hurt, in this change sought our bliss,
My true love hath my heart and I have his.

January 27, 2010Interesting, I had never got myself thinking on what’s a way to my heart up until pretty much now! Alright…let’s see.
It’s definitely not through my stomach haha. -_- lame…ok.
Getting serious now.
A way to a woman’s heart? (My heart) is not through anything, as long as the person is himself, funny and smart then those are the qualities I melt for. And cuteness in there wouldn’t hurt, you know?
In general I think a girl just wants someone honest who will love her for who she is. Am I right? (Please correct me if I’m wrong).
This Sir Philip was the rockstar of poetry, I’m guessing?
“August Rush” don’t even go there! I LOVED Jonathan Rhys Meyers! (Still do!)
