No oda brodas can deny!

What? The title not catchy enough? How’s about this blog post, then? Yes? LET ME HEAR A “HOLLA!” … No? My homie career ended as soon as it began. Sad, sad.

Back to the post then. Many of you might have heard of the fantastical brand store named American Apparel, where all the cool, hip kids hang out and shop. If your answer to this is “no”, then you are probably out of the loop. American Apparel is a clothing manufacturer, retailer and wholesale company that has some pretty good attention from consumers all around the world. As of late, American Apparel has started a new ad campaign that has people from all over the world sending in pictures…of their butt. That’s right, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. I said “butt.” Also known as: bottom, bum, buttocks, booty, junk in da trunk, among other things. Thus you are now in the “loop”. No need for thanks -although chocolates are always welcome. ;)

American Apparel is trying to find “The Best Bum of the World” to be the new “face” of their intimates and briefs line. People, specifically women, from all over the world are supposed to send in pictures of their butt clad in American Apparel boxers, briefs or intimates and online voters vote for the best looking one! Hot dang. The winners, are to be flown to L.A to be photographed and featured online as the “new faces.”

On the web page, there are numerous submissions of ladies showing their bootaay in a manner many might find to lower a woman’s standards, to say the least. The campaign is obviously causing a ruckus all around the place, with issues coming left and right of the fact that they are: objectifying women, promoting negative advertising through the misuse of sexuality, pimpin’ their website that it now resembles an adult site, helping spread the viral plague of sending provocative pictures through digital media, continuing the whole idea of the “ideal” body type (or body part type) to the youth, among looootsss of other shtuff.

Normally at this point, I would provide a link for y’all, but since some of the material is not very appropriate for all the youngin’s we have axed the linking idea. Sorry, peeps! If your parents cover your eyes at the movie theatres it’s probably for a reason. Safety first!

What other issues can happen when campaigns such as these arise? What do you think of American Apparel’s move?

Thoughts on this GBD? Opinions? POST ‘EM! We wanna hear ‘em! :)

I think the pictures are awful lol
Are they getting anything out of it, though? I mean, as horrible as it sounds, they gotta make money [legally] somehow… I don’t know. I don’t know. Some women don’t even care, though, and by trying to get them to think and act like us (as in, dude thats awful and demeaning and awful! lol), wouldn’t it be horrible, too?

Tough one.

*sending you some virtual chocolate* lol
I think AA tries way too hard to be out of the box, and edgy. They’re like that girl that tries really hard to be sexy, but just ends up looking trashy, sorry to be so blunt but I had to go there ;) . I mean this is the same company that has “butt-less” chaps. Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think there is anything positive about this “contest.” As stated above, it seems to be promoting sending provocative pictures through digital media aka ’sexting’
This contest is pointless and yet another example of women being objectified. I went to their website, to see first hand what the commotion was about, and I may be scarred for life lol! it was definitely boarding on adult content.

Lol that’s crazy. I think it’s such a silly idea. Promoting such a thing to women….Not only does that choke down the self esteem of girls and women (eek!) but it just so plainly shows their own insecurities, judging girls that way.

True, American Apparel makes good clothes. They are also way overpriced and have horrible marketing tactics! I think that the way AA portrays models is demeaning and is corrupting what our youth thinks is okay. Is it okay for kids to be seeing women in see-through clothing, sometimes even shirtless, when they shop online? I don’t think so. I feel so sorry for their models, and sometimes I can’t even believe that they would consent to these types of photos being posted of them for the world to see. I don’t like what they’ve done with the whole booty campaign…it makes people into sexual objects. People need to have a little more pride in their own dignity.
