2010 Olympic Excitement!
Hey everybody!
Jen here, reporting from Vancouver, home of this little event you may have heard of, “The Olympics.”
I went wandering around the city yesterday with my Mom. Between the Olympics, Valentine’s Day and it being a Sunday, the streets were jam-packed. The city has this energy that I can only describe as magical. Tourists and locals alike are cheering, laughing and taking in the sights. We happened to be right downtown when Alexandre Bilodeau won the first gold on Canadian soil, and the crowd erupted into “Oh Canada”! It’s been an amazing experience. We also see people everywhere paying their respect to Nodar Kumaritashvili, the luge athlete who had a fatal crash on Friday, by wearing armbands with his name and ribbons pinned to their jackets in his memory.
We went and found the cauldron with the flame burning, along with thousands of other people who wanted to see it. We also strolled down Robson Street, checking out the skating rink and ZipLine (5 hour line-up, but soooo cool!) in Robson Square. There were giant tv screens so everyone can watch the Games, and every few minutes the crowd erupted into cheers.
All of the sculptures and art installations on Granville Street are beautiful, and the Canadian pride is gushing from everywhere. There’s so much to see here, but I think the best part is the people. Everyone is excited, and the atmosphere is electric. Strangers are laughing together. If you’re lost, someone will point you in the right direction. It’s incredible and makes me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN! We’ll keep updating you on all of the awesome experiences we’re having here. I hope it gives you guys a glimpse into the magic of the Olympic Games. It is so inspiring to me to see the world come together in this city that I love so much.
Here are some photos from our tour around the city. We are now off to experience the madness again, have a fabulous Monday!!!

February 15, 2010Great pictures Jen, thanks for sharing. I’m loving watching every moment of the games on television, especially figure skating which is my favorite event! And the crowds seem to be just immense everywhere. It’s like the whole world is gathered in one place! I love seeing that sense of unity and collaboration especially at the opening ceremonies
In between the television broadcasts of the games, they’ve been showing the lifestyles of Canadian people, a bit about Canadian history and the landmarks and it looks like a beautiful place. I hope to travel there someday to see the beauty for myself.
