Impact: The Cove

Video Source

Hey ladies!

So last Tuesday one of my cousins rented a movie that she said I just NEEDED to see (it was pretty much the way she said it). To her it was a matter of life and death and so I needed to see what all the buzz was about! So when I got to her house on Thursday I finally watched this documentary that centers on the abuse that is veiled in Taiji, Japan against dolphins. I must warn you that if you’re under 13 you should really ask your parents permission before watching it because everything isn’t pink and rosy over there in Taiji and you may not like Sea World that much after watching this movie.

I’m certainly an animal lover in general but I have an incredibly softer spot for dolphins because I just love them! This movie made me realize what is actually going on, it opened my eyes to a reality I didn’t know existed. And you know what made me feel just a little better after watching the film? The fact that I could make a change by supporting this cause against dolphin captivity and sign a petition that is bound to make a change. Dolphins are not meant to be captive, they’re meant to be free!

If you visit the movie site here you can check out all the awesome ways you can contribute to saving dolphins! Click here to check the site!

And so, after you watch the movie or the trailer or visit the site I have questions for you: What are your thoughts on all this? Aside from contributing in the ways the site offers, what other ways do you think we could stop this?

This is so weird you posted this cause I just watched this documentary last night. It is so horrible what they do to the dolphins they are such nice creatures. I was watching this movie with a shocked look on my face cause I didn’t expect to see what I saw. I think it will take a lot of fight to get them to stop what they are doing. This reminded me of the show “Whale Wars”, It is a group of people on a ship trying to stop others from killing whales for “research” who then sell the rest of the meat on the market. I don’t think it takes 100 whales being killed to do research, it just sickens me to know that they have no problem doing it.
If enough people joined in on to stop them and get the message across to other people that it needs to be stopped right now it would help.

Oh wow! G! Thanks for posting this on GBD…I have heard a lot about this doc. and I just cant bring myself to watch it! The violence overwhelms me with sadness and I have a hard time dealing with so much violence in the world.

To answer your question, I think finding ways to support those who are trying to bring awareness and that are on a mission to change what is occurring in a non violent peaceful way! We can be mindful about what we choose to participate in e.i. like going to sea world, or visiting a place and paying to swim with the dolphins.

No, no. I think she meant “Oh wow! Gee, thanks for posting this on GBD…” Riiiight, Kendra? ;)

Speaking from a die-hard animal lover perspective, I am not even a fan of zoos or Marineland. Sure, it’s fun for us, but how would we feel if the flippers/paws were on the other species, eh?

Now I know what that one South Park episode was about.

This documentary looks very interesting! I’ve heard a lot about it, I’m definitely gonna check it out soon. Think the best way to stop things like this is to bring attention to it, the sad fact is that the public isn’t aware of things like this happening, and when they find out, that’s when they can decide not to go to sea world or go to a places where dolphins are in captivity. It’s kinda like the organic vs chemically processed food dilemma, If the people cast their vote by choosing either chemically processed or farmers market food, they are sending a message.

@Colleen5: I haven’t watched Whale Wars but I think that the problem can certainly be stopped (or at least reduced) through the tons of exposure that they give it, as long as the message is sent across to everyone.

@Kendra: If you get to see the documentary (I know it’s hard, but just saying that if you do) you’ll get to see that they get to expose this grave problem in a non violent peaceful way. I think that’s what is so admirable about the people in this documentary. And of course through the things we support and all that in our daily lives, we make a statement. :)

Oh, and the confusion thing doesn’t matter :) G is awesome!

@Alyssa: Exactly! Through every decision we make and through every single thing we do we make a statement to everyone around us. :) If we can at least make a difference and send a message to at least our friends and loved ones, that’s a huge statement right there. :)
