Women’s History Month
Ya know what March is, Ladies? It’s a month! But not just any month, OUR month! Booyah! How awesome is that?
Walking around campus today, there were tents way over yonder where I am too lazy to go. However, a fellow classmate told me they were selling food there, so off I went in a hurry! HELLOW, Food Fair? Need I say more?! Well, upon arrival, I had to tip-toe my way around the tents. Why? ‘Cause there was a bunch of people drawing on the floor in some squares with chalk. Chalk Artists! Wanting to see what the heck these talented people were doing, I stood there with a friend – munching on a newly purchased bag of Kettle Corn. YUM!- and I was waiting for something really cool to happen, like 3D Chalk art or some sort of illusions. After staring for a while, I realized they were all pictures of women and then the chalk people started talking about how they are acknowledging Women’s History Month. *Cue the: “OOOOOOOhhhh!…We knew that. O_0 “*
Ya see, in the U.S, we celebrate all month-long how awesome Women are.
Duh, as if we didn’t know.
It all started way back in 1979 in Sonoma County, California. (does this place sound familiar? It better! that’s where the Teen Retreat is gonna be, neat-O!) ’cause they started celebrating Women’s History Week. These cool peeps didn’t want to only celebrate International Women’s Day -which is on March 8th- they wanted a whole week! Well, this shindig became so popular that 2 years later, Congress said “Okay! We hear by announce Women’s History Week!”. But was this enough? Ohhhh no, not even close! Schools and communities started doing cool programs and events all centered around this week. Women’s History celebrations swept across the land in a wild fire with everyone wanting to participate and learn about our fellow counterparts. By 1987, Congress said “Okay, okay. So the week wasn’t enough! Doggonit! Y’all get a month then!” and HOOZAH! Here we are!
The National Women’s History Project commemorates the month of March by focusing on a new theme every year that focuses on the highlights of women in different fields all around history. This year, the theme is “Writing Back into History,” which will show the past themes and highlight women’s achievements from all areas, whether it be art, politics, sports, medicine, whateva!
Here are some pics I took from my school:

This month is a pretty important month, I’d say! So remember it when you walking out on the street. This is MY month! This is YOUR month! This is OUR month! Ya got that, sistah?
