Today, March 21st (or if you are reading this the 22nd then yesterday), is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The reason this day was chosen was because exactly 50 years ago, police open fired at a peaceful demonstration against Apartheid “pass laws” (laws that segregated people based on their race) at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpevill, South Africa. 69 people died that day. In 1966, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed today and ever since then, every year the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) embark on a program to understand and combat racial discrimination in all its forms.
To read more about some program implements you can go here. This site also has a nice resource for a lot of things relating to today.
Remember this day ladies! We are all beautiful in our diversity! Respect the differences, admire them. Underneath all the uniqueness, we are all inherently similar
Peace, peeps!
