Little Mosque and the Vandals

I have this thing where I never turn the news on, it never brings any good news, does it? It’s some murder, or an assault, or a drug bust, weapons bust, war in another country, etc. It’s all just a bunch of hate a negativity, but the other day, my mommy had it on when I went to talk to her about something and do you know what the story was? Some people thought it would be a good time to vandalize the only mosque in the city. I guess I need to stop sitting in watching TV on Thursday nights, it’s when all of the action happens. :P

Enough about how I spend my Thursdays and don’t you dare judge! You all probably watch TV, too! Don’t look at me like that, I know you do! YOU DO!

Where were we? Oh, yes, the mosque. According to the news, the windows in the women’s prayer area (it’s a very traditional mosque) were smashed to bits and profanity was spray painted all over the place, as well as “666″ and satanic symbols. I bet they left their shoes on, too! Where is the respect, people?  Apparently with the Muslims who worship there, because they made statements about forgiving the vandals and even going so far as to pray for them.  “We’re peace-living people. We love everyone and we want everyone to love us.” How can you hate on a group of people who say that?

I know a fair amount of Muslims and I can’t even begin to try and understand how violated they may feel. I’m sure it’s nothing in comparison to that dress my friend made me try on that barely covered certain…parts. But that’s beside the point. Why do you think things like this happen? What can we do in our everyday lives to help promote peace and tolerance? LET’S BUILD BRIDGES TOGETHER!

I love you, you love me, we’re a happy familyyyyyyy! Oh yeah!

Aw that’s so sad. I don’t understand how people can do the things they do especially when it comes to being so demeaning & vandalizing something so sacred to so many people. I really wish people could stop doing all the violence & instead help one another. I’m really hoping things change in a few years.

But yeah I agree it should be all peace especially with people that all they do is pray for you & are so kind I don’t get it.

I think that fear of the unknown leads to these acts of vandalism. Many times people fear what they don’t understand, whether it’s another religion, skin colour or sexual orientation. By showing grace in the face of hatred, these Muslim worshipers are setting an example of peace that I hope spreads through the world.

Good question. I believe we can stand up for those minorities that do seem to be getting harsh criticism from others. We can respect one another starting here at GBD. It’s all about Respect. Show it, Give it, and Earn it.

I love my GBD Family!!!!!
