Write a Letter to the Future You

Here’s a fun project!

Why don’t you write a small letter to your future self. Think of it like a time capsule. Pick a date in the future you’d like to open it, it can be any time from a month, a year even 10 years! Your choice.  Save your letter in a safe spot you won’t forget it until that date and then when that time comes, you rip that envelope open and Ta-Da! A little window to your past opens up!

Write whatever you want in it, your hopes, your dreams that you think you’ll accomplish by that time you’ve chosen to open it. You can write what you are doing now, how you feel and think, what’s going on in your world around you at this very moment. It can be like a photograph, a picture in time, except this time you’re writing your feelings and your thoughts to paint your picture! Neat, eh?

Opening this bad boy up at a later date can show you how much things have changed since you first wrote it, how much things have stayed the same, and give you a little more insight into who you are and they way you think.

Be creative! Decorate your letter, make a poem, include pictures and knick-knacks, cherished possessions, whatever you want! The letter is yours to make and explore!

If you’ve already made a letter or a time capsule before, do you wanna share what it felt like making it? How did it feel when you opened it? (If you have opened it already).

Or if you wanna share the letter you’ve made now for your future You, then why not share it here? Ya know ya wanna! Post a pic, comment on your feelings, give a brief summary on what ya put in it. Yeah? Yeah?! If you want to send it on to GBD so we post it on the blog, you can send it to info@girlsbydesign.com or bianca@girlsbydesign.com. C’moooonnn our comment boxes and inboxes are waiting!

Ready? Post Away!

BTW: Don’t forget to check out our newsletter! Who knows, maybe your present self longs for the future self to be independent. Here are some tips, tricks and ways some fabulous girls feel independent! How about you?

My school did something like this too! We planted a time capsule in the grass behind our school when we were in our 1st year and we’re going to dig it up in our final year! :D I put a few things in there like photos etc. but I forget a lot of the stuff I put in!:P But that will only add to the excitement when we open it I guess! :D

This is agreat idea Kendra! :D

Yeah my school did this as well – I think I might do another one – I have new hopes, dreams aspirations now since I’m in a different place…
Good idea! I’m in!

I did one in grade 12 and we opened it at the end of the year. I did another one last year with a couple of friends but did not open it yet. I found it very emotional to write and to read it afterwards. You know, writing down all your dreams, feelings and goals, etc. But I think ultimately it can be fun to do!

great idea Kendra!
