Assumptions About You

Hey GBD!

Here’s a trip. Sometimes, when we meet someone we get an idea of what they might be like and start to believe that’s who they must be in reality. Often though, what we assumed was true about the person, turned out to be totally and utterly wrong! Shocker. People can surprise you, which is why I think we’re so dang interesting. Never judge a book by it’s cover, ya never know what amazing story lies inside the binding.

What assumptions have you made about other people? What assumptions do people make about you? Why do you think that is? Does it matter what others assume of you? Why or Why Not?

Another great post Binks & yeah I agree never judge a book by its cover actually get to know the book & read it.

I have made a few assumptions I’m not going to lie but i usually feel guilty for thinking them, I do however not judge because I’ve been judged by either my color of skin, or because i’m latina so it’s just something I can’t do. Sometimes I assume that if I see a guy standing in the street corner & I’m all alone he might jump me or something or I might get mugged. I’m very paranoid sometimes just because I’m a girl lol so idk those are the main ones I think about. I have this story actually where I came out of my car & there were these 2 guys standing there & one asked me if I had 75 cents so they could make a dollar & something with what they had to take the bus I of course felt bad so I said “Yeah no problem” but I didn’t take out my purse to show them how much money I had because I assumed if I did they would just try to take it from me (again I know paranoid me with that lol) so I just dug inside my purse without showing them & gave them the 75 cents.

I have had many because ppl assume that I’m like all the “Latins” out there & I’m bad & want to steal just because they judge by what they have heard or seen so I get that a lot they also assume I’m not educated, I once had this guy ask me “Are you latin?” & I nodded I’m not ashamed never will be I’m proud of what I am so I nodded & he looked at me disgusted & said “So are you working at McDonalds? That’s all you guys do don’t you? You guys don’t finish school or nothing.” I just stood there shocked like trying to comprehend what he said to me was real & I looked at him angry & told him “I don’t have to explain myself to you…but if you must know I graduated a year & a half earlier then any of my friends & I’m in college! Even if I did work in McDonalds it wouldn’t change the fact that most ppl that do are smart they are trying to get money & save money to get where they need to be!” I was so angry but I didn’t say anything else because I didn’t feel the need to explain to him. So I’ve had that assumption a lot of the time because most ppl think that spanish/latin ppl don’t graduate & are not educated & therefore work at crappy jobs & that’s definitely not the case.

& I have no idea why it is I think most ppl that assume that is because they judge by what they have heard or seen on tv & they think every latin like I said doesn’t go to school or finish school & that we all mug & rob ppl idk it’s really sad.

It doesn’t matter to me because I’m proud of who I am & who I am becoming I’m in school I’m doing what I have to do & what I love to get where I need to be in my life with what I love which is Animals. But I can’t lie it does hurt just because it’s me & knowing that ppl like that guy just think the way they do without knowing me it sucks so idk it kinda gets to me but at the same time I don’t care because I know how I am & how most latins are so I definitely don’t wanna judge or assume anything.

Whoooo sorry haha when I rant I rant lol.

I used to judge a book by it’s cover but after getting to know better one of my dearest friends i learned that the covers MUST be trown away.

Well, people think that i’m bitchy. I have to lie if i say that it doesn’t matter at al.

I find that I am always making assumptions, I don’t know if its possible not too…however I tend to make assumptions based on my past experiences, but it doesn’t make me correct.

For example my family is LOUD! and EXTREMELY EXPRESSIVE!…when we talk we tend to shout over one another, to someone else this may seem like we are all fighting, but we in fact are just communicating to each other and matching each others rapport.

I think making assumptions is important, it helps us navigate our way around so to speak, however we can’t be tied to our assumptions, we need to always be open to gathering new info and having new experiences.

Well… to be honest I think I make assumptions pretty fast about other people. Is it about their looks, their way to talk or the way they treat other people. I don’t like this character trade but it’s pretty hard to abandon it – although I often was told wrong. A couple of months, when I moved in my new flat, I got to meet my new neighboor. He’s a punk. Red mohawk, weird clothing and a kinda grimmy smile. You can guess what I was thinking, eh? But I was so wrong. He’s one of the kindest, intelligent people I know and now – after getting to know him better – I don’t wanna miss him in my life. He’s different. That’s all.

I often got told that people think I’m arrogant cause I’m pretty quite and cautious in a group or when I get to know someone new… but that has nothing to do with arrogance… I’m just a way too shy!

I will admit that I find myself making assumptions about people. However, because I know that usually people are not what they seem, I at least try to have several good conversations with someone before I make a decision about them.

People make assumptions about me all the time. I get pretty good grades most of the time and so my friends assume that I am a genius. This may seem like a positive thing but that means that people have huge expectations for me that I try really hard to live up to. I am also really involved in the arts such as music, drawing, drama, etc. and the same applies to that. People just expect me to be amazing at these things and I just can not be great at everything, so it is hard sometimes.

Great post(:
