It occurred to Caitlin
That if she were a vegetable, she’d be
Tofu, not
Tasteless, mushy
Tofu, or your
Watery, bland
Gushy, tofu
But, firm and
Protein filled, yet
Still malleable tofu,
Mixing with all the veggies
Even some fruits
A good pair for anything
But needs a little something,
To be worth while
Slice her, dice her
Puree her, mash her
In a pot, in a pan
In the oven, in a blender
Marinate or season,
Wherever your mind can wonder, she can
Change and mold
To whatever you like
Take the taste of whatever food
You may prefer,
But don’t forget that the true tofu is still there,
You can
Drown her in soy sauce
To get rid of the taste,
But you never really tried her,
So go easy on the soy sauce
And give her a chance, oh no,
It’s to late.
You’ve thrown her in the pan with some oil
And a couple of veggie friends
She takes the flavor of all her surroundings, and
You never got to try her when she was her true self
But she accepts that you won’t give her a chance
And agrees to loose her identity.
Which, as things were, wasn’t so easy.
