Hey, Ladies! You remember Susana, right? Well, she’s back for more! WOOT! If you too are interested in writing for GBD, send in your stuff at contributor@girlsbydesign.com. Got it? Great! Go ahead, Susy!

By Susana

So ladies I had literally THE hardest time finding a topic that I thought would be interesting to talk about, well one thing held me back from concentrating which was my migraine that I had. I was thinking, “Hmm, why don’t I choose a topic that us girls all experience,” and that’s when it hit me…..*light bulb goes off* I was going through it at this exact moment so why not pick the big topic that is ‘The Menstrual Cycle.’

Now, we all go through it at some point in our life. Some get it earlier than others, others get it late. I got mine at the tender age of 11 years old, now I’m not going to delve in my story of how it was for me *whispers* (It was terrifying) BUT nonetheless, I went through it at such a young age it had me – in a way- grow up. Now we all have to go through the cramps, bloating, headaches…or in my case, migraines. We also experience exhaustion (fatigue), and our emotions are all riled up into this huge disaster. Some of us have the pain or any of the said side effects worse than others but still we all have to go through it, I guess that’s part of being a woman *shrugs* but still we do have to go through it at some point in our life.

Now, as I was thinking of all of this and getting the idea to write about this topic, I was thinking how unbearable painful cramps are. We went to the Space Needle this past Wednesday (which will be next week’s topic) and it was my first day of my cycle – I thankfully got it before we went. I took Midol which is supposed to work, but after 2 hours my pain was too hard to actually take that I started crying. My mom however thought it was hilarious, I’ve experienced the horrible cramps, but never this bad and I wasn’t sure why.

The whole point I was trying to make, and I’ll cut it short now, was…..have you had your pain so badly that you wanted to cry (or did eventually cry?), have you ever fainted from the pain? How old were you when you first started? Do you have a story that comes with it, without being mushy? Now, you don’t have to answer any of these questions, just my daily question/questions of the week. Remember I don’t want you answering if you don’t want to, this is just a fun way for every girl on here to bond with everyone :) .

Post away, my pretties! :D

AHHH OMG! I got my period on vacation, which was awful. As if a 9 hour car ride wasn’t bad enough… lets add some cramps.

I’ve recently noticed that I cry a lot when I’m about to get my period.. not from the pain, just because I’m so emotional! Like, I’ll just lay down on my bed and cry for NO reason for a good 10-15 minutes. crazy right?

good post girl!

How true the pain can be so unbearable! I read a few years back that all the pain we feel during our period is preparation for pregnancy and childbirth, and they actual recommended not taking pain medication. So with that said, I try by best to not take any medication I think of it as a way to improve my pain tolerance. It’s definitely not for everyone but it works for me, even though that week can sometimes be the worst week of the month :)

Late reply, but I know EXACTLY what you mean!
Well, I guess all girls do, right? ;)
My friends and I have actually had this discussion before.
We all agree, we’re happy when the cycle comes on time, because it means our systems are healthy.
As for everything else, it’s pretty much a bummer =P.
I don’t usually get migraines, but my stomach and back can become a real problem for the first few days. Having both pains simultaneously? Not fun. At all.
Side tracking a bit: I don’t know if this happens to you guys, but do your hands often feel clammy as well? I notice I get a bit more sensitive to weather, and often go from extremely hot to extremely cold during my cycle.
I don’t usually cry during the week of, but often the week before, my emotions start to go a little screwy. The smallest thing will send the tears flowing, and it doesn’t even have to be sad =P.
One thing I can’t go without during these weeks: A nice cup of hot tea =).

I’ve never had stomach aches or migraines during my period, I usually just feel uncomfortable in the back. And my boobs feel like I’m carrying a big painful pair of watermelons a week before that. So I’m grateful for that, cause I used to see my sister roll herself up in a ball, foetus like, and cry on her bed because of her pain. I can only imagine what it’s like.
