Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin Seeds
By Caitlin Parker
I spent the other night with my three year old sister. We carved pumpkins and baked a ton of pumpkin seeds. I had never baked pumpkin seeds before, so I just really hoped that they’d turn out well. They actually turned out really well though! I took them out of the oven and began to chow down on them. Morgan, my sister, of course wanted to try them…. but I figured that she wouldn’t like them. Turns out, SHE LOVED THEM. We both sat on the counter, with a bowl of pumpkin seeds and a glass of milk.
I started to notice that every time I took a sip, so would she. I would take a handful of pumpkin seeds or just one, so would she. I was about to ask her why she was copying me when she turned to me and said, “I’m doing everything you’re doing!”
I asked “Why?”
She responded to me like it was so obvious, “Because you’re my sister, Caity. I love you and I like to do things that you do. Its how I learn sometimes.”
First of all, since when did my three year old sister learn how to speak so well? Last time I checked, she didn’t know how to pronounce the word, asparagus. Anyways, I just thought… wow, some looks up to me…
LESSON OF THE DAY: Even if you think that you don’t have any influence on others, you do. People look up to you and depend on you. Always remember that.
