The Burn Book at My School, Say What?

We’re all familiar with the Burn Book from Mean Girls… and if you’re not, then I’ll tell ya all about it. The Burn Book is from a movie, Mean Girls, in which a bunch of girls got together and wrote a book full of gossip, lies, and secrets. Then, in the end of the movie, **SPOILER ALERT**, the book is distributed throughout the entire school and everyone turns against each other. They all learn a lesson, and everyone lives happily ever after.

Well, last week at my school, the burn book came to life. A group of girls at my school actually wrote a burn book. Not only that, but they made it using their school accounts on Google Docs. They got caught, but not after having had written over a hundred pages of gossip, etc. Now, are these all rumors? No! They were suspended, detentions were given, and girls went mad. Well, that might be a little extreme… No one went crazy that I know of at least.

Didn’t they learn from mean girls that a burn book is incredibly stupid? Are they that mean that they feel the need to write a burn book? I feel like it has all got blown out of proportions, but some of it is true. How horrible is that? Girls feelings were hurt, secrets were exposed, etc. Why do girls feel the need to gossip? What has high school come to?

Wow a burn book is just sooooo bad I just don’t get how girls can be so mean and do something so hurtful, I honestly don’t understand. If gossip and bullying weren’t bad enough but starting a book like that is only making situations worse. Girls or even guys that do this…but lets face it, it’s always girls that do…..are probably insecure and self conscious, because to be so rude and make something so disastrous as that then well you don’t have a soul.

Thanks for sharing Caitlin, and to answer your question I’ve no idea, to make themselves feel better probably but maybe it’s to get attention. Watching Mean Girls has proven that girls are really rude…not all girls but a lot of them especially high school girls. Its sad how much bullying and gossip there is but I guess it’s life right?

What concerns me about Mean Girls, is how obsessed girls have become with the movie and particularly quoting or incorporating some aspects of the film into their life. The movie, in my interpretation, was mean to be satirical about the absurdity of high school social hierarchy. But I think that girls took it out of context to try and become the antagonists in the movie.

Wow that’s intense!…there are things that happen amongst us that are really painful and mean. I too have the question as to why? It makes me wonder what the girls intent was and why they choose to create a burn book? I wonder what they were hoping to accomplish?

I think this is an important topic, that I would like all of us to blog more about. The thing is, there will always be people and situations that occur around us that will effect us. Somethings may be true and somethings may be false…but damage is done non the less.

How do we deal these things? How do we react? If others have decided that we are something we are not and judge us based on those false beliefs how or do we counter act? Is it enough for us to know inside that we are NOT what they say? and that they people who love us and spend time with us know different?
