Tracey’s Thoughts on the Musical World in Ireland!

Hey Ladies! It’s me again, ready to fill you in on all things music!

So seeing as we’ve just come into December and Christmas is just around the corner (so excited!) I thought I’de dedicate this piece to Christmas music!
Christmas is definately a time that’s very family orientated and usually every year I whip out my guitar and we all sing together in the evening. It’s a nice way of getting the whole family together and what better way to do it than through music? And who cares whether you have the voice of an angel or not, or whether you can play an instrument? I believe that music is a gift we all have in our lives and the winter season is one of the best times to put it in use. So why not sing your heart out let loose with your loved ones this year! :)

Ireland is great for celebrating Christmas, which why I mainly chose to talk about this, to show you all what it’s like here during the winter months and how music gives Christmas a nice touch! It really is a huge holiday over here and many people go all out! Walking through the towns of my city during the winter months just make you automatically put a smile on your face! It’s so nice walking around picking up a few presents and seeing buskers dressed as Santa Claus smiling at everyone passing! It’s people like that who like to keep music alive during the holiday season. Every shop you pass will have various carold playing along with big speakers and wide open doors to make sure everyone hears them! We tend to put on a lot a carol services here too in our schools to celebrate which are always really beautiful. One of the best things this year is the radio station dedicated solely to Christmas music that was set up! It’s so much fun to turn it on and to know that every single song is going to be a festive favourite that you can sing along to! So despite living in such a small (and cold!) country this time of year is very special for many of us here!

And to celebrate a music filled Christmas this year I’m going to give you a list of what I think to be the top 5 songs that are a must have this season!
5.Frosty The Snowman - Walter ‘Jack’ Rollins and Steve Nelson

4.Last Christmas – George Michael

3.Santa Baby – Joan Javits

2.Wizzard – I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday

1.Mariah Carey – All I Want For Christmas

Bonus- Mick Flannery – Christmas Past

Bonus song! Being from Ireland and all there’s a local singer songwriter here called Mick Flannery who’s a very shy performer and really only talks through his music. He often keeps his head down while he sings and never plays big venues. He is a true inspiration to me and I recently saw him perform live with his band. He’s definately a very talented man who lives for what he does which is something I really look up to.
He has a christmas song but it’s not your ususal upbeat type. It’s a slow sad sort of song but it’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard! I really recommend you guys take a look at it on YouTube because this guy is so amaing and Ireland love him!

So guys hope you enjoyed! And this Christmas make sure that you don’t stop singing!

Talk to ye all soon!
