Senior Project
Hi Ladies!
I have just begun my fourth quarter as a senior!! I am almost DONE HIGH SCHOOL!! But for my school there is a senior project requirement in order to graduate. Do any of you girls have this at your schools? In the handbook the senior project is described as the following:
“The last formal learning experience of your high school career. This project can show your potential, demonstrate prior learning, and help you understand a stronger sense of self. It can offer you an adventure, tapping into your interests at a transitional time in your life. The hope of Senior Project is to engage your sense of curiosity proactively by having you initiate, develop, and engage in a plan of action.”
With the project we need to develop an essential question and then base our project off of that question. We have to go out in the world and find a mentor who will guide us through the project. Also, a nice little perk, we get 3 weeks off from school to work on the project.
Some people blow off the project and have their essential question be something like, “What is the Irish Culture?” Then go to Ireland and get drunk every night… some other people have done awesome projects, such as going vegan for a month, or trying to understand the Amish culture so they go and live with the Amish for a couple of weeks. Other have done volunteer programs or one girl even learned how to make glass and went to a glass blowing place for a couple of weeks.
For my senior project I decided to try and become a certified personal trainer! I love fitness, training people, and helping people meet their goals. I also think it would be awesome to be a personal trainer as a side job. The process is so hard though, not to mention expensive. The course is $800. Also, in order to even take the test I have to be CPR and AED certified = 6 hour long akward American Red Course class.
So ladies, are any of you doing a senior project? Even if you aren’t what do you think you would have liked to do as your senior project?

March 28, 2011Your idea sounds like an interesting opportunity to explore! My school didn’t require a senior project, but it sounds like something I would have enjoyed doing.
