ZZZzzz…
With finals just a couple of weeks away, I feel like all I want to do is sleep. One of the few downsides I’ve discovered about living in a college dorm is that no one ever seems to sleep very much! For the past three nights, I’ve had student performers rehearsing for a concert a stone’s throw from my window from 3 pm until 1 am. Many of my floormates can be found running around until 2 or 3 am even on weeknights, leaving only a few hours of quiet before everyone gets busy again at 8 am. Most research recommends that teenagers and young adults get eight to nine hours of sleep per night, but with the amount of time most of my peers spend online, partying, and cramming for exams, the average amount of sleep is probably closer to six hours. As someone who would love to go to sleep at 11 every night and wake up at 7 am, this has been a difficult adjustment for me over the past few years and I still struggle with it. I try to get eight hours, but all too frequently I only get as few as four and end up having to nap during the day. It’s unfortunate and unhealthy, but sleep deprivation is all too common.
What’s your sleep schedule like? How do you get through your day – naps? Coffee? Post away!
