Lucy’s Beauty Blog!
Hello beautifuls!!! Nope… I’m not Dead….Yet… LOL
Contrary to what many of you my beloved readers may have thought I’m still alive… I just have gone through a very difficult period in my life… So many things have happened since I last wrote an entry, among them I lost a dear friend and was diagnosed with endometriosis to accompany my POS (polycystic ovaries syndrome). My heart definitely goes out to all my beautiful ladies who have any of those diseases. Because of this I decided to write about another condition I have and to ask you ladies if you have any skin condition or particular disease and how you have deal with it.
Mine is Atopic Skin.
“Atopic dermatitis is a very common, often chronic (long-lasting) skin disease that affects a large percentage of the world’s population. It is also called eczema, dermatitis, or atopy. Most commonly, it may be thought of as a type of skin allergy or sensitivity. The atopic dermatitis triad includes asthma, allergies (hay fever), andeczema. There is a known hereditary component of the disease, and it is seen more in some families. The hallmarks of the disease include skin rashes and itching.” (www.medicinenet.com)
“Dermatitis” means inflammation of the skin. “Atopic” refers to diseases that are hereditary, tend to run in families, and often occur together. In atopic dermatitis, the skin becomes extremely itchy and inflamed, causing redness, swelling, cracking, weeping, crusting, and scaling. Dry skin is a very common complaint and an underlying cause of some of the typical rash symptoms. It is a very difficult condition to deal with because there is no cure, and in my particular case treatments have not helped much…
There are periods of time when the disease is worse, which are followed by periods when the skin improves or clears up entirely. Because multiple factors can trigger or worsen atopic dermatitis, including dry skin, seasonal allergies, exposure to harsh soaps and detergents, new skin products or creams, and cold weather, it is even harder to control. Environmental factors can also activate symptoms of atopic dermatitis at any time in the lives of people like me who have inherited the atopic disease trait.
In my case I spent all high school wearing sweaters despite of the temperature, this is because my arms and legs are where I get the worst rashes and therefore scars. I still get a little self conscious wearing tank tops or only swimsuits when I go to the beach.
Now girls it’s your turn to share!!… Do you have any skin condition that frustrates you? Does it make you feel self-conscious or hurts your self esteem? Have you felt “unattractive” because of it? Let me know in the comments section!
On a happier note… not everything has been so bad… I also had the chance of getting Lasik surgery in my eyes! yay! BUT I’ve been forbidden to wear makeup for 45 days! :-O of pure pain and torture! I still have 13 days to go and I’m starting to feel really… unsettled everytime I see an eyeshadow
How do you suggest I cope with this? Lol
Stay beautiful and happy
XOXO
Lucy

August 25, 2011I’m so sorry Lucy
I’m sending lots of good thoughts and energy your way!
Thanks for the info about Atopic dermatitis, I’ve never heard of it before. I can totally relate to wearing long or 3-4 sleeves when it’s hot, I’ve got some scars that I’m self conscious about.
How was the Lasik surgery, was it scary? I want to get it done but I’m terrified of surgery. Were you coherent the whole time? Could you see them working on your eyes? I want details lol
Great post Lucy
