Lucy’s Beauty Blog
Hello dolls!!!
Luckily, by now, I’m feeling better in regards to my diagnosis of all diseases; I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support! You girls are amazing and so sweet!… So because of your comments, I decided to write a post on my Lasik surgery. I want to share my detailed experience through the whole process… Aaaaand… *drumrolls please!*… I get to wear makeup again on Friday! YAY!
Well, I’ve always had myopia… By the time I got Lasik, which was July 19th, my myopia was of -3.50 in my left eye and of -3.00 on my right eye. I saw less with my left, because when I was younger, I had an eye ulcer and as a result, my cornea was “scratched”. Anyways, the day of the surgery ( you do not have to go on an empty stomach per se, you just have to have eaten 4 to 6 hours before your appointment), I woke up at 6 am, had breakfast, showered and used an anti-septic liquid and some “q-tips” (why in the hell are they called “q tips”? They look nothing like a “q” to me!) to clean my moving lids, my eyelashes, and my upper and bottom waterlines. My appointment was at 10.30 a.m, but there was a delay, so I really went in at 11.30 a.m. And if you wear contacts (I don’t), you have to stop wearing them around 5 or even 21 days before the surgery.
My mom was there with me, as well as my good friend, Gary… to give me support, I guess… I love them to death!…
So, I was called inside the room. There were two girls who helped me change out of my clothes and put on those funny hospital robes, the thingies to cover my feet, and they put on, like, a fabric cap or something to cover my head and tame my hair –hey! They took my glasses off and I couldn’t see much, and that’s an understatment. That was what took more time changing to the surgery clothes and then back to my own.
Girls, it was AMAZING!! The whole thing took 19 minutes, my friend timed it. And to me, the actual Lasik application took around 4-6 minutes total. You are awake during the procedure; however, they give you anesthetic eye drops. They use a small device to keep you from blinking –I was terrified of that! I thought it was akin to torture, but it wasn’t. It didn’t even feel awkward– the doctor puts a fabric to cover all your face except your eye.
He told me to look at a particular red light and never lose sight of it, even if everything went dark for a second, and it does… for about 6 seconds during that time you cannot move at all. He told me that I would feel some pressure on my eye and then the device touching it would vibrate (but you can’t feel that only hear it). Then, it smelled like something was burning. Like hair, perhaps, but it dissipates quickly. What the device does, is that it creates a thin flap on the cornea tissue of the eye: it folds it to enable the remodeling of the tissue beneath with the laser. Once the laser does its job, the flap is repositioned and the eye is left to heal.
Then, they put totally uncool transparent plastic protectors on your eyes, that you must keep on for the whole first day. You have to apply eye drops every hour but from the first day, you can see everything so much clearer. The next day, the Dr. saw me and told me that my eyes were really dry, so he told me to use more eye drops. And dry eyes bothered me for about 3 weeks, but eye drops are really helpful and by that time you see everything so clearly that, to be honest, you really won’t care!
Then, you have to wear the uncool Lady Gaga-like eye protectors every night for one month… That and the makeup ban are what annoyed me the most. Now, my eyes do not get dry and I need less eye drops and the process will continue until I don’t need eye drops at all. Oh! and I did put my glasses on and OMG I was really REALLY blind!
So… Thoughts? Did I answer your questions? Do you have more questions? Do let me know in the comments section below!! If you girls have the chance to have this surgery, go for it! The pain is zero, the post-op issues are minimal and the change in how you see the world is huge and permanent!
Leave me comments, sexies! If you read the whole post you rock!! Sorry for keeping it long, but you wanted details haha!
XOXO,
Lucy
P.S: Last time I say, the Dr., he said I’m better than 20/20!! Yay!! Tell me which topics you want me to write about! You ask, I deliver! xoxoxoxo

This is the lifting of the flap, the applying of the lasik and then the closing.

This is how the procedure looks.

The Lady Gaga-like eye coverings.

The difference in vision.

September 1, 2011It sounds easy! But I’m so sensitive when it comes to my eyes, I was actually tearing up reading the surgery part! lol I just can’t wrap my head around being awake and having my eyes operated on. Maybe one day if the opportunity presents itself I’ll have the guts to do it. Thanks for the details Lucy! Yay about getting to wear eye make up again!
