A Young Woman’s Guide to Makeup on a Budget!

Hello beauty queens!!!

Yes, you are queens for me!! However, in this second issue of “The Broke Student Guide to Makeup” I’ll be going over what products should you really invest on and which ones you should save on…

‘Cause we all are queens but that doesn’t mean we have a chest full of gold coins and sparkly jewels to spend!

I decided to do this via one list, in case you have to go get your basics that I talked about last post *wink*  :)

Invest on:

1) Sunscreen!!!

Why? This is self explanatory: the Sun is bad for your skin… Snooki’s color is not healthy!! The paler the skin the healthier… If you like a tan’s glow, use sun less self-tanners. Choose a sunscreen adequate to your skin type and its needs! :) My favorite is Umbrella the gel formula.. Brands like La Roche Posay have excellent products; so does Neutrogena.

2) Moisturizer

Why? well self explanatory as well… Skin care products are very important!! Choose one for your skin type; if you can get one specifically for your skin needs, given by a dermathologist, even better!!

3) Primer and Foundation:

Why? Because both products are in direct contact to your skin!! That means that they should be good quality ;) Primer is like your makeup insurance!! Whether you use a foundation primer or just an eyeshadow primer, it is made to keep your makeup intact for a longer amount of time. Eyeshadow primer prevents creasing, fading, and the ocasional runny makeup… particularly in humid places like my country! :)

I will devote an issue for types of primers soon! ;) When a product says long lasting this is almost a synonym of more expensive same thing happens with waterproof products.

4) Make up remover

Why? Because I say so!!! *evil stare* lol just kidding! Because what is the point of getting your canvas (a.k.a face) all dolled up if you don’t remove the prettyness at night? What is the grandma beauty tip #1?? NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER go to bed without removing your makeup!! It causes premature aging, and if your eyes are easily irritated you can get some mascara inside and get an infection!. Also this causes the face to produce more sebum, not to mention that by morning, your sexy smoky eyes may have turned to creepy racoon/panda eyes and it will be harder to remove the make up so you’ll have to pull on the skin causing irritation

And now for the good part!! ;) let’s fill some piggy banks!! (read it like saying: it’s so fluffy I’m gonna die!!!… yeah laugh at me… I love animated films lol)

Save on:

1) Mascara

Say whaaaaaaat? Yes, save on mascara… If you’ve been reading my blog posts you may remember the one about the caducity of beauty products… Mascara should be thrown out after three months. Why? because of the bacteria, and possible infections, particularly if you lend your makeup and I have to say this for the millionth time: DO NOT SHARE YOUR MAKEUP WITH ANYONE!! Not even your mom or sisters, or bff, or girlfriend (or boyfriend cause some guys use that too!) There’s no point in spending too much… Most people who wear mascara do so everyday so most don’t even last the three months! ;)

2) Eyeliners *if you don’t have sensitive eyes or if you don’t line your waterline*

I’ve also bought cheap eyeliners, particualrly the black ones, why? well it’s quite simple. I don’t line my waterline which is most people’s biggest complain, that the eyeliner never stays there; if you do eyeline your waterline and have that proclem, do buy one that’s more expensive, long wear and wateproof…

TIP!!!!: However, to eyeline the lid, you can use pencil and then grab an eyeliner brush and perss eyeshadow of the same color on top to dry the eyeliner and prevent it from running down your face

3) Lip balm

Why? Well, most of them are cheap, actually my favorites are the EOS lipblams! They are 95% organic, 100% natural, free of parabens and petroleum… And their prices start at $3 USD… Last year I got 3 of them in a cute tiny purse for $10 USD.

4) Blotting papers

These are a must for people with oily skin! You can instantly mattify your face with one of these! Most makeup brands have them, and my particular favorite is the Blotting Paper box by NYX; it contains 50 sheets (one sheet is enough for your entire face) and the box is only $3.50 USD!!

So there you have it my dears!! Spend in what you must and save in what you can!! What do you girls invest/save on?? Let me know in the comment section! Next post will be the last issue on “The Broke Student Guide to Makeup”!

Stay gorgeous and keep smiling

xoxo
